Gambit is my favorite straight-up X-Man, but most of my actual favorites come from the spin-off books, like Rockslide and Anole from New X-Men/Young X-Men.

never read the comics but if wikipedia is correct then I love gambit's powers of increased agility and speed, card throwing is cool but the agility and speed is what I like.

Also Warren a.k.a Angel from Xmen 3, his wings are awesome

I'm only familiar with cartoons, but yeah, Gambit was cool. He wasn't lame like Cyclops and not over the top with that whole outsider thing like Wolverine.

Still his powers kind of sucked.

Actually they aren't that bad. His power is manipulation of potential and kinetic energy, he was initially able to charge anything and make it explode (organic or non-organic) just by thought, but he couldn't control it so Sinister removed part of his brain, limiting it to touch.

A side effect of the ability is he has greater strength, agility and stamina then an ordinary human.

Pretty decent in my book.

Having only really seen the films, and a few X-Men cartoons, they were quite new, dunno how accurate they were, can someone explain why Wolverine is not an X-Man, and if he isn't is Beast?

Both are X-Man. Only that Wolverine is a "lonely hurr hurr" type, while, well, Beast is a scientist. Even if he's a giant monster-esque animal that can throw cars, doesn't mean he will.

I'm going with the Juggernaut. Doesn't count? Crap. Then... Gambit. He's the only one that has defeated Wolverine within few seconds.

1. Charge his staff with energy.
2. Ram the staff into Logan's mouth.
3. Boom.

so the guy who can manipulate fire is named ICEMAN, wierd I always thought it was PYRO, also beast is one of the original X-men, and for the OP, if you are saying wolverine is not and x-man, how can you then say Gambit, he has just as much of a messed up past, and in the last several years has only actually been with x-men a few times and has fought against them aswell.
