I like Kurt/Nightcrawler because he's German and... yeah, that's about it. I'm not really into X-Men or comics in generall.

All about gambit.

With Cable running in a close second followed by Jean as Phoenix.

Also Juggernaut does not count because he got his powers from a stone and a tablet that made him the guardian of a certain god. Although I cannot remember the god's name.

Colossus, if we're just going by the core team and not any of the sub-groups. (I'm a huge fan of the New Mutants). Anyway..yeah..Piotr because he's not an wangsty loner or trying to be oh so cool like Logan or that prat Gambit (worst X-Man EVER, btw). He was stalwart and loyal and, goshdarnit, a good person.

Gambit- Always thought he was awesome...That and he destroyed the world in one universe, blew it up with his powers. And he destroyed a London bus!

Er...Shadow Cats is pretty cool...Imagine never having to open a door again!

Some reason I always liked storm. Controlling the weather even on a small scale would be kickass.

Iceman. There's something inherintly cool about being able to manipulate ice.

Runners up include Colossus, Shadow Cat and Gambit. All for having really cool powers.

Cyclops gets a mention because of Astonishing Xmen. He gets pissed at a sentinel and removes his visor. That was awesome.

Gambit, but more recently, Beast has been my favorite.. Still gotta say Gambit overall though. After that, Nightcrawler, and then Colossus, oh, then Storm... WHOOOSH!

*EDIT*
Honorable Mention to Cyclops, because he's really been getting the short end of the stick lately, coming off exceedingly whiny, annoying, or totally pretending to be an angsty pseudo-badass(which he still fails at...) xD He's been getting just too much crap to take lately with the movies and the most recent cartoon.

Gambit was cool, but to be fair Psyloche because she had rocking, er, purple dagger things. Yes, that's it. Two of them. Hmmmm.

I am aware I probably spelt her name wrong. Sue me.

Phoenix is pretty good too
Phoenix is not actually part of the X-Men. She incorporates the body of Jean. So technically that's a vote for Jean
But Jean can only pull of her full potential with the phoenix in her

I've always loved Wolverine, Gambit and Rogue for personality and powers. Favorite villain is always going to be Magneto for similar reasons and I can understand his view point. Mister Sinister's design was pretty cool so I guess he comes second.
OMG, You could be me
This is exactly my viewpoint and preference

Beast. Besides the fact that he's an interesting combination of attributes that are normally mutually exclusive, none of his various incarnations have ever come across to me as grating or 'extreme' even in the toons. He's made notably less mature in the Ultimate X-Men continuity but then the same goes for the rest of them too.

Fave villain will always be Magneto, Prof. Xavier's eternal rival and colleague. Most of the others often seem one-dimensional in their desires and motivations (Apocalypse, Juggernaut, Master Mold, etc.). Runner-up would be Mojo simply because I like detatched villains with bizarre outlooks on the world around them.
