Phoenix is pretty good too
Phoenix is not actually part of the X-Men. She incorporates the body of Jean. So technically that's a vote for Jean
But Jean can only pull of her full potential with the phoenix in her
So the correct thing to say would be: I like Jean in phoenix form.
Technically there was another character called Phoenix... she was a member of Excalibur and was the daughter of Jean and Cyclops from the hell-future that doesn't exist anymore.

Still not necessarily a member of X-Men. Although in one of the off shoot comics (dun remember which one) phoenix gets her own body and her and jean are both on the team at the same time.

Honestly? I like the Ultimates version of Dazzler. She rocks and is useful for a short bit(before getting stabbed into a coma).

Um... I dunno other than that. I guess I'll go with Beast.

Storm, without a doubt. Who wouldn't want to have the God powers? A bolt of lightning here, a controlled blizzard there, a small indoor tornado sprinkled about. That'd be sick.

I also love Jubilee for some reason, probably because I relate to her in the sense that we're just there for comic relief, and our skills aren;t really that useful when you get right down to it.

Everyone here is crazy, Jubillee is the best Xmen there ever is or was in the entirety of the series. She could make her hands sparkle! How does that not trump everything?

I'm going with general consensus here with Gambit. I love his fighting style more than his powers, though I do find throwing explosive cards awesome. I also am I fan of him because during Apocalypse's take over he becomes the horseman Death.

Wolverine, although not technically an X-Man, is the coolest I can think of. Gambit is also pretty cool, and I actually like Storm and Cyclops, just for their powers. Rogue has a really cool power, but if I was her then I'd like to be able to keep the powers I take permanantly and just have a huge back-catalogue of powers.

However, my favourite X-Man has to be Shadow Cat, aka Kitty Pryde. She's awesome anyway and her power is one of my favourites, I mean, who wouldn't want to be able to phase through solid matter?

I'm only familiar with cartoons, but yeah, Gambit was cool. He wasn't lame like Cyclops and not over the top with that whole outsider thing like Wolverine.

Still his powers kind of sucked.
Excuse me? Before he got nerfed he had the power to destroy the entire world simply by touching it. What the hell is wrong with you?
I'm not a hopeless nerd, sorry. :)
Charming. And I only know that because I read it on someone else's post.

Yep. Throwing EXPLODING CARDS is the coolest thing you will ever see on any screen, period.
Grrr. How many times must it be said. They are not exploding they are charged with kinetic energy.

I'd have to go with Iceman. In the movies he's a bit of a puss, but read the comics a bit and you find out that he's more powerful than Magneto, and last I heard, he had to keep his body entirely made of ice cause he's got a frikkin huge hole in his chest that would kill him otherwise.

So long story short, more powerful than Magneto, can freeze ANYthing (including time I was once told), and he's technically a zombie keeping himself alive.

i've been reading some of the new x-men comics so you may not have heard of him
but i like shadowstorm he's pretty badass (xavier tried to kill him but failed epically)

but for the older characters i would go with storm and iceman

Cyclops for me, I always thought he looked so cool in those sunglasses.

I was annoyed when he didn't get much of a role in the films.

GRRR... The cards EXPLODE when they hit stuff, thus, even though the cards themselves are not EXPLOSIVE, they do EXPLODE, MAKING THEM EXPLODING CARDS! Are semantics really that big a deal that you HAD to call me out on them?

I have to agree with Mobius here. By definition, when something explodes it basically detaches from something (proper definition of explosion is the opposite of collision. So if you touch something it collides, and when you move your hand away that's technically an explosion. Blame A-Level physics for my knowledge of this.). The cards are ripped apart by their own energy, which causes an explosion, and the kinetic energy they are charged with is what gives them the energy to rip apart. The excess energy, of which there is lots, is then displaced to form the traditional explosion that we all know and love.

Yeah, I'm not really a sci-fi nerd or anything, but this is the most logical explanation I cn come up with given that I once tried to think up scientifically possible ways for superpowers to be real. As it happens, quite a few have been previously stated as possible by real scientists speciallising in genetics...

Bishop pwns Gambit any day of the week. Archangel is also pretty freakin' cool. Not the new Angel, the one with the metal wings. That shit was awesome. But I gotta go with Longshot here. Supernaturally good luck trumps any other ability, period.
