So i just finished FEAR 2. Whilst the only other person i know didn't like it all that much, I loved it.
The combat was pretty simple but fun from your ability to make cover, slow-mo, rag-doll that is quite humorous and a varying grenades.
The story line is good albeit cliche and very lightly touched upon in the actual game but good nonetheless.
The horror sequences were...not that scary. I played a very little bit of FEAR on PC and it scared the crap outta me. FEAR 2 kinda ruins it's scary parts by announcing them, whether its through the overly used *Long hallway with flickering lights* or the *Dark room after your HUD just flickered* however, i still jumped more than a few times.
Your teammates are almost non-existent what with all the "Let's split up and never see each other all game" but then again it's not really horror if you have 2-3 hardy, high-ranking military personnel with you.
The ending was really good too. It was unexpected yet made sense and wasn't over the top insane. It tied in with the story line. i.e Alma forced to have children and then taken away from her, only to rape you and bear your child. It also leaves room for FEAR 3.
Yes i have seen Yahtzee's reviews and whilst he may not enjoy sequels, I for one enjoy them. I don't really care if a game/movie is cliche or not, so long as it presents the cliche well.

So, What are your views on FEAR 2.

I've only played the demo, but I thought the horror parts were very creepy, to the point that I was tempted to stop playing. On my 2nd playthrough, however, the terrifying occurrences caused by Alma's dark power were no match for me singing the Ghostbusters theme over and over. I have to say, though, I think the action segments just don't work. This is supposed to be a horror game, it's even titled FEAR in big letters, but half the time you're running around shooting evil soldiers. I had no idea who the hell they were or why they were there. It just felt so artificial and pointless. I think they should have replaced the evil soldiers with a wider variety of supernatural enemies. Oh, yeah, and I'm fine with sequels in general, but I hate cliffhanger endings.

I know what your saying when you complained about the lack of supernatural enemies. If you see the game as a Shooter first then Horror, the game becomes a little better. I jumped into the game with no expectations which is why i think i liked it so much. But the really funny thing about this game is it doesn't leave you scared once you stop playing. I know nothing is going to jump out at me in real life because my HUD doesn't flicker :D

It was not as good as the first, especially how many of the little frights in there can be easily missed by facing the wrong way, whereas the first they were always right in your path.
I also missed lean but oh well. Overall it was a very good game, I just liked the first a bit more.
Saw this as somebodies signature on a forum somewhere
Becket: "Cook that Grenade."
Pointman: "Do what now?"
Becket: *Facepalm* "Oh yeah, you dont have that."
Pointman: "I'm sorry, what? Hang on, let me LEAN over so I can hear you better."

I am currently playing F.E.A.R 2, and so far I am not as impressed as I though I would be. I liked the first one a lot better than the 2nd. This may because I haven't actualyl completed it yet. So far though, not loving it.

I finished it and really quite enjoyed it. I don't think it's as good as F.E.A.R. 1 itself, mostly because I was really amazed about the atmosphere in the first one, and there were genuine scare moments. Two was a bit too predictable, and even though I jumped a few times, I didn't really get shocked too much. The gameplay is solid though, level design is better and more detailed (the school was just awesome). Graphics, story and story were all quite good too. Major bummer was the pistol though, damn I loved dual pistols in the first game!

I really enjoyed the single player campaign except for the difficulty. It was way to easy even on veteran. Could have used some more horror and less action. The multiplayer on the other hand is complete garbage. Where is the slo mo dm or tdm? Why give host options but you can't even adjust the time in a ranked match? Why can they not kick people? Multiplayer should be about friends getting together and fraggin but you are hard pressed to get that when you can't even kick someone. The mech multiplayer is so unbalanced it isn't even funny and the only way to actually enjoy it is if you get a group who understands spawn killing with the mech is not fun for either team.

It seems as though the people who either played FEAR or played FEAR 2 with expectations were disappointed. The developers just didn't follow up as good as they should have.
