Fear of Sequels

I'm usually very late technology wise to each gaming generation. I was justing getting a GBA SP when everyone was getting their DS and DS Lites, playing on my Gamecube while everyone else had their next-gen consoles, but I've been slowly catching up thanks to my PC and such. It's just for some reason after the past while, I have just had growing free of sequels. I really enjoy the games I get, most of the time playing through them multiple times, or trying to 100% them most of the time. But as soon as I think of the idea of a sequel coming out for it, I just get a sudden feeling of "What's the point of going on if the next one is on its way?" or "What if I won't be able to play said game because of requirements or not having the system for it?", which has really pushed me away for some of the games I have, and its kind of irking me with Prince of Persia 2008 which I am just now playing through.

So basically, the main question and discussion here is...has anyone else had this type of feeling or am I just crazy??

And also, are you fearful of a certain sequel to a game/series you like, and it either not being what you want or something strange entirely??

I can't say I've ever felt that way. Sometimes I won't agree with a sequel, but I've never not wanted to play a game because another one in its franchise might pop up a few years down the line.

That's pretty crazy.

I mean, there's always an excuse as to why you shouldn't do something if you want to look for it. Why buy a computer if hardware improves 96.7777777% every year? Why eat when there might be better food later? Why breathe when i might suddenly evolve gills like a pokemon?

Why make exceses to not do stuff that's supposed to be a leisure activity to begin with?

I honestly don't know why =S It just one of those little brain ticks that some people have...Like constantly reloading, or saving their potions even though its the last boss. For some reason, my brain is just frightened to do something, if theres a new and improved version out there...I have no clue as to why.

Case and point: Guilty Gear. I was going to go and reinstall my copy of #Reload, which is like 2 versions old compared to the newest copy of the game, but then I heard that its creators(the people doing Blazblue now), said that there will be a sequel, could be a year, could be 5 years...but for some reason, I'm scared stiff of playing it now that a sequel might pop up.

I understand not wanting to get a game if there will be a sequel soon that is the same game and just improved, Street Fighter IV to Super for example, or if you want to play it and the multi-player just isn't there any more. That should make you pause for a bit, but not turn away. The majority of games hold some unique to them that even their successors don't hold. Story, characters, little charms that got lost due to "progress", and so forth. Let what you have now be your focus and try to think of sequels as abstract concepts that might happen once you finish the games.

For games like Prince of Persia 2008 however, no need to worry at all. Aye it's a Prince of Persia game, but it's a Prince of Persia separate from the others and holds charms that the original games, the GBA games, nor the Sands of Time trilogy hold. Explore the world and enjoy it (and I would recommend just ending the game after the credits, not doing anything more).
Then you can play the Sands of Time trilogy +1 random adventure side-story. Treat them as separate things to enjoy for themselves, not to worry about.

Ya, I suppose so. Especially with fighting games, since I really like them, but I have nothing that can play them except for my PC, and all we get is the first version of each game =S

And I am REALLY enjoying Prince of Persia 2008, its extremely gorgeous with its celshaded characters and environments, and its like..a really fast paced version of the SoT Trilogy gameplay wise. It's just that little fear thing popping up while playing =S Running from platform to platform, then all of a sudden "~hey, its been 3 years since this game came out, there's a sequel probably coming out soon even though nothing at all has been said, stop now~" ...and it's irritating as hell, and ruining a fun experience

somtimes though its a good idea to play them in order

1. story
2. it might be a little harder to go back to number 1 if you played the seaquel first as it may be a little less polished

Hmm, no more input on this??

I really wasn't thinking I was the only one who had this kind of...itch or whatever, but I guess I just might be =S

I heard Capcom is bringing Super Street Fighter 4: Arcade Edition to PC, 'cos apparently Street Fighter 4 sold 'surprisingly well.'
(Even though there were some ridiculous debacles such as THQ not shipping any units to Australia, so I had to end up getting it on steam)

Also, Blazblue may be making its way to PC.
They're trying to make cross-platform vs. play, too.

I heard about all that stuff, but I guess I just have to wait and see =S

The Fighting game tick thing usually isn't as bad as it is with other games, its just wanting to play the newest version of them to viable thats annoying =S..Which I guess goes against the whole tick..
