I think you hit the nail on the bud on that one. It certainly hits home with me at least.
I still have that game, but I never did beat it, is that monster optional? If so, where is it?

Eh, I try to avoid the water in games as well, just as in real life.

Same here. That... thing left a lasting impression on me.

I don't know now. I had a deep hate of water because of its slowing effects and hiding stuff in it, not to mention Bioshock's horrifying distortion every time a drop hits your head. But then in Bioshock 2 on hard mode I felt kind of odd running around making love to every ankle deep pool of water I could find. Because your health and eve regenerated in it with a tonic, and elctrobolt basically raped anything inside it also. It was the only way I made it through hard mode.

Really?
I used to like that thing because it reduces the possible strategies a lot. Mainly I would just jump in the water expecting for it to attack me and then wack it with the crowbar. If i had little life use the crossbow, when it aproaches, then the crowbar. If i had VERY little life (or didn't wanted to go through the hassle) i would just make a swim for it, most times it's easy to escape.

It's not a "boss" ( in the meaning of the triple head thing that was on the test chamber for rocket engine kinda "boss") if that's what you mean. It is a regular enemy that can only appear on clean water so whenever you encounter water it's possible to find it. I think you are only forced to go on water where that thing is in only three or four times. And odds are you can out-swim it if you know where you have to go, or at least have a place in mind to investigate.

I killed it with an SMG and some damn patience. Didn't get a drop o water on me.

Water isn't that bad in Video Games for me. I often just see it as one more meter to watch for.

The SoTC thing was pretty interesting. I remember having nightmares of being a huge room full of connected fishtanks (this is being mentioned for a reason lol) and then rounding a corner and staring into a tank that has a massive snake-eel thing just floating in the middle of the water just staring back me, I get distracted, turn around, glance back and it is gone. The SoTC level reminded me of this, since the water boss itself was similar. But you don't spend much time in the water floating, you are grappled onto its back for the majority of the fight.

Yes, yes, YES. God, try playing S-Mod for HL2 having never seen those before then having one eat you. God, I hate murky water now.

Yeah, if gaming has taught me anything, it's "Stay out of the water."

Sometimes, this is to great detriment to my gameplay experience, but I can't help it.

My problem is that you can't tell if the game insta-kills you when you go in the water before it either does or doesn't.

There's also the fact that your beastly jack-of-all-trades hero has a glaring weakness in that he can't fucking swim. God that pisses me off every time. Except Psychonauts. It was ok in that game.

The only game I have this problem with is in fallout 3, cause the first time I did a Mirelurk King started to swim at me head on, and I didn't know what it was(being very dirty water). So all of a sudden I have his massive beast ripping my nipples of and it freaked me out...

*casts Water Walking* See ya suckas.

Seriously though, it depends. As the one person posted in pic form, Banjo Kazooie = fear of water. But if its not to be feared then no. Oblivion I dont, though Morrowind with the Dreughs, then I am more cautious. Though I usually know water walking in Morrowind.

Just Cause 2's water is pretty glitchy. Sometimes I am immobile in it for what ever reason.

In F.E.A.R., someone had said something about something scary happening in the water, at another point I heard a voice say "There's something in the water", and through the half dozen times I've played that game, I still haven't found it...

But no, not really scared of going in water in games...

I don't fear water, I fear crappy controls, poor design choices in levels, not being able to attack, and moving slower than a rock. :p

Half life did this to me. There was one part where your at a lake type thing and have to go down and continuously turn a wheel to open a gate with one of those THINGS in the water and I was out of crossbow bolts.

Oblivion + Slaughter fish.
I was about to say that, but with Morrowind, since I haven't played Oblivion much due to not having anything that actually can play it. "But you have a computer!" you say. "Yes, but it's a laptop, and thus would likely struggle with the beautiful landscapes in Oblivion." I respond.
