I bought FEAR from steam, and so far its great but at certain intervals, I will need to restart the game becuase of heavy lag.

Now my computer has been able to run Mass Effect 2, Crysis/Warhead, Bad Company 2, all maxed settings with no lag at all, but yet FEAR will lag at parts.

Has anyone else found this to be a problem?

Sounds like a video card issue. Or maybe you have too many things running in the background? And my computer chugs if I try and run Crysis on high.

google your video card and fear problems. Might be a specific issue with your brand of card, with a specific work around. Or that its a known issue.

If that doesn't turn up anything, then I'd do:

1. Run a virus scan
2. Update your video card drivers
3. See if your BIOS needs an update

after that... well, I got nothin'.

You know what's weird is I bought the first FEAR,and it ran just fine. I got the expansion packs later on when the were released, and they ran like absolute CRAP. No matter what setting I put them on (they actually seemed to run better on higher settings, which is weird as well), no matter how many unnecessary applications I closed down, the expansions always sucked. I think Perseus mandate ran a bit better. I always blamed it on the engine they used...maybe they redid the original FEAR with the newer one, causing it to lag?

BTW, I just got FEAR 2 for the computer, haven't installed it yet. I hoping It doesn't lag as well....but we'll see.

See like what just happened like a minute ago, the game was working fine, got to a certain checkpoint and suddenly the game began to lag. Now when I go back and load my file, it will be fine.

I just don't know why its doing this.
