Don't really get the point of this. It seems to be more of a pad on the back for some users, a good old 'why we're awesome'. Stop the glorification already.
Why is this featured? To spread the news? There's already enough of that.
I think the Escapist should feature some more quality video-game discussion rather than social groups. Feature SavingPrincess already.
There's so much wrong with the last two sentences of your post, I don't even know how to start without getting moderated. Suffice it to say I disagree very strongly with your insinuation that quality work which can be taken seriously is created by said user. No slight against the guy, it's just that his stuff is 100% opinion and not particularly well-written opinion at that. Hey, you bring something that has no bearing on this thread into this thread, that's what you open yourself up to.
What follows below has nothing to do with the fine fellow I quoted up above:
I like it when this site has a more serious gaming focus, but my irritation with this particular thread has more to do with my growing dislike for Asylum. Soup told me a while ago that all the news messages which aren't news (you know, that message you get every time ANYONE in the Asylum creates a thread) are sent because there isn't really any actual news to report. I get that. But is it really even polite to send out 10 news notifications in a DAY?!? Freaking come on. I left the news notification mail setting on in case something important came up (like an important user being banned), but I really honestly don't care if somebody made a thread. ESPECIALLY not a celebratory, "look at me I'm awesome guys" thread.
So I implore you, Asylum, please stop sending news alerts every time somebody makes a celebration thread for less than, let us say, 5,000 posts? Or even 10,000 would be good. See, those are kind of achievements (in a sad way).
If I seem grumpy today, it's probably because my last shred of humanity shriveled up sometime last night in the middle of "Frasier."
