No, you send a message to Kuliani, and he'll consider it. It doesn't matter if your group "Serves a purpose". Also, every group "serves a purpose".
Okay, I was mistaken. And I realized that the "serves a purpose" comment probably didn't come out right. I meant that, hopefully, featured groups will have to be about more than "Hey, X is super-great, let's talk about how super-great X is".

Just a heads up, this is going to get a lot of requests from people for what should be next week's featured group. The Asylum already posted an announcement for it...
Oh boy. They should make it a rule where you can't be entered if you post an announcement in your group, so the mods don't get spammed with messages.

Or, write several names on a piece of paper, put them on a dart board, and then throw.
Ya, but getting a bunch of people to start spamming PMs to someone seems like something that there should be a rule against.
If it looks like a rule, and it sounds like a rule, it must be a rule. Coincidentally, I do not like any of the people who are in the Asylum, and this is the kind of thing I've come to expect from them.

FYI, I dislike them for the whole "We are insane because we like to randomly throw words around. We are nothing like Family Guy, though. Family Guy is not insane or sophisticated". Or, that's how I look at them, at least...

Prepare the Flame Bunker, my friends. It's going to be a long one...

I never did like the idea of people patrolling the forums like a neighborhood watch group. On that matter, I also do not like the idea of people discussing whether a post is worth a ban or not.

The whole group seems to be pretentious, especially Sevre. But, I couldn't tell, due to you only being able to look at the chat if you joined the group. Oh, fuck this, the whole thing seems sketcky, and I never really was one into drawing. (Get it?)
This^

Also am I the only one to say it so far? No one ever suspect the Spanish Inquisition.

I don't really enjoy the idea of having some people patrol the forums seeking out random crap that might get you banned either. How do you even know if said people hate you or not? They could just plain hate you and continue to follow you until one screw up and have you gone. It's, well it's a very bad idea.
I did that with MaxTheReaper. No regrets...

That seems a bit too much. I hate some people here but I don't spend all my time following them so that I can catch them screwing up and get them banned. That's just, stalker-ish. Maybe you need some help.
MaxTheReaper stood for everything I hated in this community; Angtsy, narcissistic, "I'm sadistic because it's cool!" fools. After not taking it anymore, I started to follow him more. I was determined to find him slip up, due to him tempting the mods all the time.
I tried that with Fluffybacon, but never got to report him/her/it.

And ya, the Asylum has it's issues, but the good part is you don't have to worry about low content posts. It's better for random conversation.

Which I'm almost never a part of... :(

I'm a member, and I used to be somewhat active, as far as seeing a troll or ad post and putting it in the Inquisition chat, but other then that, I never got too involved in the politics or whatever else goes on in TSI. I am still a member, and once in a blue moon I'll still send something their way, but most times, I just cannot be bothered.

Nice to see one of the groups I'm actually active in get some recognition, especially the Inquisition at that.

I am the one that posted the announcement about the Featured User groups in the news. I don't exactly see the problem you two have with that action. You might try actually reading the news post before activating your righteous indignation. I informed people about this new feature, and told people about how Kuliani asked that people message him with suggestions. I made a point to ask people to only message him if they believed The Asylum should be a featured group, give a reason why, and not to spam him.

As for you Mr. Bassatti. I really hope you are playing the hypocrite card so strongly as an ironic statement or something. You are condemning TSI as arrogant for daring to pass judgment on another user. When all your posts have been filled with angry rant's about what others are doing wrong.

Those guys just report things that break the rules. That helps the community. The mods pass judgment. The whole group could have it out for you and report all your posts and never make a bit of difference if you don't actually break the rules.

Woah, you left? But you were one of the top dogs in the group! Hell you were better than me (Which wasn't that hard, considering I lacked a lot of motivation near the end... but still! CURIOUS!)
Yep, I left. Lets just say that things were better when you were an admin. At least you showcase your ego on purpose.
And I call crap on some of what was said in those answers in the article. I even have the chat logs to prove it.
One day I will have my revenge... and perhaps TSI will be good again...

I feel you. Left for the very same reason.

But I shall not complain... publicly.

It seems as if certain people who posted here already had their own opinions, and their opinions have been unchanged by the interview, but thanks a bunch for the time Kuliani, I really enjoyed it.

If you have a problem with the group, I'd love to hear your suggestions on what we can do to stop that.

We deal with all manners of content, from relocating threads to their correct forums to catching adbots. None of us really "patrol" the forums. It's more a question of a user reading and participating in threads, and if they find something they would report, they put it up in TSI to get input on whether it should indeed be reported, and we can then use the report button more effectively. Personal agenda is rather quickly rooted out as we are many and diverse; we wouldn't be featured here if we were a shady bunch of stalkers or if our existence simply annoyed users.

As for pretentiousness, I can tell you it definitely used to be that way. You'd see users post "No one ever expects the Spanish Inquisition!" way too much on the forums, and some of the members probably felt they were better or more powerful than the rest of the community, but that changed mainly when Kuliani gave us a reprimand on the issue. Since then, those members have changed or left, and the user group has changed fundamentally under a new guiding hand. If I sound pretentious (from being super srs), it's because I tend to talk a bit more formally when addressing masses of people. One has to take care not to allow ambiguity when doing so. As for Sevre, he's probably the least pretentious of us all. He's a very laid back owner who pops in now and then to check up on the autonomous group he created.

I've dealt with some discussions where personal attacks have been the problem, yes, and steered anger away from making a report where it was not needed, but we discern those issues from the more general ones that affect the community as a whole. The official forum guidelines are the only thing that makes us, as a group, report something. Sometimes, the problem of a personal attack has been so extreme that it indicates a person is simply volatile in community context, and that is a different issue.

Fair enough I guess. Just making sure everyone doesn't spam the mods into getting rid of this as punishment.

Just so everyone knows, only one person has to nominate a group. Multiple nominations of the same group does not mean they are more likely to be chosen as the next Featured User Group. The choice for who is next will be that of The Escapist Staff.

If you ask me, I have to agree with the folks saying that this group is somewhat egotistical. I for one have done the exact same thing as the group claims to do for a long time now, I just feel no need to advertise that fact. Making a separate group of people to do what other people should be doing on their own defeats the entire purpose. In fact, it's counterintuitive as far as I'm concerned, because it leads other people to believe that they shouldn't report and the like, and instead leave it up to the group that supposedly specializes in it. The fact of the matter is, if anyone had a better understanding of what should and shouldn't be reported, it's the mods. If you have a question about whether something should be reported, and I mean even just a question, then hit the report button. If it doesn't need action taken, then none will be taken. It's as simple as that. The mods are here for a reason, and we don't need a second group of wannabe mods claiming to lurk around watching people. And the whole thing they used to do of posting "nobody expects the spanish inquisition" in threads they report is just icing on the cake. It's far worse than saying "report and move on" which the staff already rebukes posters for. It bumps the thread, adds nothing to what little semblance of conversation there may be, and all in all only uses more trouble than it fixes. Not to mention the fact that it's a stale and unoriginal joke copied from a famous comedy troupe, rather than coming up with some new idea.
