Right, so it seems as the gaming industry progresses, different trends begin to form in the features of games at that time. Regenerating health was one that became incredibly popular in the last generation of consoles.

The main feature I noticed in this generation, is a cover system. Almost every fucking game has a cover system these days. And not just shooters either. Real Time Strategy games like Company Of Heroes and Halo Wars also often have cover systems. It's a nice feature but it does begin to become tiring. I enjoyed Killzone 2's use of cover though, because it is one of the few first person games to have it.

What are some trends you've noticed?

Quicktime events to finish off big enemies. It just takes away the feeling of a kill sometimes, especially when you've been hammering away at them for the past few minutes. Oh and the lack of HUDs seem to be becoming more popular in FPSs.

Quick times events really, and swearing.

Oh yeah and also every mmo that tries to rip some money of WoW, they all seem to have the feature "mmo"

Game Characters you play as. Gordon Freeman, Tanks, Annonymous Badasses, God, it's all rather annoying. There are not enough games where persistently you play as more than one. RPGs don't count.

Swearing for me, I hate it when writers just throw it in. It's not appropriate for the situation and often the voice actor doesn't convey it well.
Make me cringe and laugh at the same time.
