What do Possums Eat?

2015 will be the year we bring you hard hitting inquiries like "are possums cannibals?"

Honestly, the possum thing is more dumb than anything; you're just getting a wild animal angry, then releasing it in your town in front of a crowd. Just stick to the traditional small-town events of "Getting drunk and launching fireworks while the teens have sex behind the dollar store", Brasstown.

Those people should definitely pull the kitchen out of their guest cottage rather than the grove mansion; why send your in-laws to the shed behind the garage when they can be banished to the treetops, only a fallen ladder away from leaving you alone?

Also, that mike slides really well; I've wondered in the past about how complicated the Feed Dump setup is, but apparently everything's coated in a nice layer of Vaseline for improved mobility (and possibly to help Kathleen with her Animal Planet show, we don't judge).

CAPTCHA: you are here

No, I'm not. Feed Dump takes place in Canada, and I'm in Minnesota. Granted, Canadians and Minnesotans are kinda like cousins with our love of winter sports, our timber industries, and the fact both Ontario and Minnesota both have the same official bird, but still...

I've actually watched Treehouse Masters. They actually made a music studio treehouse, and Cee Lo Green HIMSELF showed up to check it out! I think it works for Animal Planet since treehouses are good ways of getting close to nature and wildlife, but I could be sadly misshapen...

So, do we have the heart to tell the Düdle fellow that it is the non umlaut u that it pronounced "oo" (...whereas the umlaut one is closer to "ee")? :p

Uh... I'm not sure if PETA made things worse somehow... or the town, itself, just has a morally weird tradition...

Also, whenever I think of Animal Planet, I think about their "current" slogan "Suprisingly Human"... which, when you think about it, makes the Treeehouse Masters show suitable to be shown on that channel...

If you're wondering about Kathleen's....... you need to start reading George Orwell!

The parking lot in Brasstown is the city council office, across from the wal-mart, between the two four way stop signs. The possum drop would be at most page three, and 90 plus percent of the two pages stapled together they call a newspaper are pictures they got from their .5 megapixel 2008 not so smartphone that are all out of focus.

I always thought it was pronounced exty ex.

"Possum drop sounds horrible! Lets think of ways it could be better." "Possum drop is surprisingly boring, let's think of ways it could be worse."

It's the first Feed Dump of 2015 and already Graham is staring into space, wondering how humanity has fallen so low.

Why were they given permission to build the kitchen in the first place? That doesn't really make sense.

"I mean like food!" And here we see Kathleen temporarily forgetting what show she's on.

Did that "Oy!" come from Cam? It sounds too high pitched for him.

The fact that PETA is more okay with them killing a possum making it into a stew, then lowering it to the ground than they are with lowering a live one to the ground is... interesting

While you could be, I'm going to assume you meant mistaken. But I did want to thank you for that as it was literally laugh-out-loud funny :D

PETA aren't for animal protection, they're for "ethical" (in favour of humanity) treatment of them. If they could put down every domesticated animal on the planet, they would.

That aside: Kathleen! Possums eat, among other things, tree bark. They're a scourge on a number of New Zealand forests because they eat the bark and then the trees die (also there's like 100 million of the little buggers).

That said, I'm not sure if dropping a possum into a box of tree bark is particularly cruel, per se.

I know that small towns are generally, no matter the geographic location on the planet, kinda weird. Something about places where everybody knows everybody and small memes become known by everybody within 24 hours, resulting in some rather odd traditions and local idiosyncrasies that no "outsider" will ever understand.

But I really want to know what resulted in the tradition of lowering a possum in a tinsel covered box and then setting it free for new years. Seems like there'd be an interesting, or maybe incredibly dumb (or both!), reason for it.

In answer to the question: literally anything. Opossum are scavengers; rodentia. Anything a rat or raccoon would eat, opossum eat; from dead animal carcasses (i.e. leftovers) to fibrous material (wood or cardboard) to indigestible chewy plastics (garbage bags, insulated wire, soda bottles, etc...).

That was actually on purpose. That was the way my old man used to say "mistaken". Glad to see I could elicit a giggle from it.
