For those who love racing games, be it a casual drive through Star Road in Mario Kart, or a simulated, technical race on the legendary Nurburgring track in Germany, I am pleased to announce the Escapist Racing Club!
Our opening news post gives some of the basic information:
So this is not only a shameless plug for a new user group, but an open call to all escapist racing fans, whether you like to race, paint, or just watch, to prepare yourself for the 2010 ERC (Escapist Racing Club) racing season! As the opening post says, we'll be starting in the new year with our very first Forza 3 tournament! I'm really hoping for a good response from the community, as I'd love for this to become a fun thing that we can do as a community!
And, to promote discussion:
Would anyone here be interested in racing?
Really, the only way this is going to take off is if people want to race and have fun! There are plenty of people online to race like jerks, or who have little respect for those who are maybe new to these games. We're looking to not only have fun tournaments, but also to create a racing community built on respect, fun, and fair play!
Would anyone be willing to paint the 'winning' cars for the Forza tournaments?
I would probably paint them for now (I'm not too bad, but certainly no master artist), but if someone has serious talent in painting in Forza, then it would be great for them to jump on board! All credit would be given to them, of course!
Would anyone be interested in helping organize a tournament for other racing games?
Forza isn't the only racing game out there. With Need for Speed, Mario Kart, Gran Turismo, and many others, there is something for everyone in these racing games! I, personally, only have Forza, so I can't really organize anything for any other game. But if tere is a few Need for Speed fans, or fans of some other racing game, who want to have a tournament of their own, then that would be awesome!
So what do you think, Escapists?
Start your engines? Or put it in park?
Our opening news post gives some of the basic information:
What the heck is this?
This user group was originally going to be simply a base of operations for a Forza 3 racing club that I and a few other members wanted to set up! Upon further reflection, however, I remembered that Forza isn't the only racing franchise, and that racing fans of all kinds might want a place where they can set-up a tournament of their own!
So whether you're into Need for Speed, Gran Turismo, Trackmania, Forza, or even the classic PC Racer 'Stunts', then this is the place to meet, set up tournaments or races, and share tune-up ideas!
Wait, 'tournaments'?
Heck yes! Tournaments! A lot of groups are the simple 'join and forget' kind, where you just join because you like something, but don't really participate. Here at the Escapist Racing Club, we want to avoid that. Which is why we'll be holding regular racing tournaments in Forza 3. There will be ground rules (Class of car, Country of car, Horse Power limit, etc), there will be judging (No running off the road, no purposeful crashing, etc.), and there will always be two prizes (First over-all, fastest time over all)!
Tournaments will consist of multiple races, with each position getting a set number of points. Fastest time over all, and most points over all will each win a prize. The prize will consist of a custom painted, one of a kind car (Painted either by me, or anyone who wants to contribute)! The prize might not seem super 'serious', but this is all being done for free, and most importantly: for fun!
Aww, just Forza 3?
Nope! Forza 3 will be the first, but if you've got the hankerin' to set up a Gran Turismo tournament, then go ahead! Set it up here! Want to get a Need for Speed Tournament going? Set it up here! Heck, don't have Forza 3, but have Forza 2? Set it up here! Any racing game is welcome (Yes, even Mario Kart)!
Will you post winners?
We'll do better than that! Not only will we post winners, but we'll also be posting a racing replay of every official Forza 3 tournament, with turn-by-turn commentary! We'll have pictures of exciting moments uploaded, as well as pictures of the prizes won! We want to go all out and have a blast with this!
So when is the first tournament?
As of right now, the first tournament will likely be in the new year. We want to gain members a bit first, paint and upgrade some prizes, and plus, let's face it, the holidays are really busy. So in the new year, hopefully within the first two weeks, we'll be posting our very first Forza 3 tournament! There will be a class limit on the first race! So if you're only used to driving around U-Class cars, then practice on C and B class some more! Racing is about good driving, not just big speed! So bring your A-Game!
Wait, I have another question!
Well that's what the chat is for! Post questions, concerns or ideas right in the chat! OR just PM me directly! I'm all ears if someone has an idea to make this more fun, or better overall. The idea here is to have a good time!
And one more thing...
I will be watching this group pretty closely, and as an admin to this group, and as a MOD on the Escapist, I hope that we will all be respectful of each other, regardless of racing game played, platform it's played on, and whether you win or lose. Respect is the name of the game, people! We're here to have fun!
