So I picked up a copy of this a while back started playing got about 15 hours in and then I let my brother give it a try. Ironically, in an effort to prevent any saving over of each others games he puts his on a different memory card than mine. So naturally he saves over it anyways Murphy's law and such.

I never got particularly engrossed in the game as it just seemed to try and give you plot points without really explaining there relevance. So that left the story solely reliant on my interest in the characters themselves. I didn't much care for the battle or license system either, although I imagine they would grow on me. Quite frankly I don't know if another 15 hours of doing all that again is really worth it. So then does FF XII get better and more interesting and I should restart or just leave it for a rainy day in the distant future?

A lot of people don't have any time for FFXII, but I have to say I love it, and did so from the get go, so I would say definitely, but many posters are going to say no, I imagine.
That is just my opinion, it is a bit of a 'marmite', FF game (love it or hate it)

I always expect some people to blindly despise anything despite it's merits so I am prepared for naysaying :D

I got to about 20+ hours into and just stopped playing - I have no idea why, some of it is brilliant - but my team has no variation!

It's unlikely that I will get back into it.

It's my favorite Final Fantasy; most people who don't like it just were mad that the plot focuses more on overall political intrigue than intricate characterization.

Go for it.
