Okay, before anyone asks...

[b/]THIS POST HAS THE ESCAPIST SEAL OF APPROVAL

[spoiler/][image/]http://www.hiponline.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/10/seal.jpg[/IMG]
Anyway, I've looked at all the websites that Google can provide for me and i have yet to find anything about the release of Final Fantasy Versus XIII. Is there anyone here who can shed some light on that? Also, as a side note, anyone have any word on Kingdom Hearts 3?

And, for discussion's sake, how many people are looking forward to the new Final Fantasy/Kingdom Hearts installments?

The release dates haven't been released yet but on the 8th of september, Square are having a "release party" during which they will release the japanese release date of FF 13, not sure about Versus. http://au.ps3.ign.com/articles/101/1019568p1.html

And I am super psyched for FF 13, the wait is killing me.

They are already on thirteen? Jesus, I have fallen behind.
I'm somewhat befuddled by the fact that people are still excited for Final Fantasy games. Especially any game with designs by Tetsuya Nomura. I mean, there was once a time when the games in the series weren't bloated, overwrought, inanely-plotted, budget-breaking affairs.

(Though I'll admit that the tenth one was somewhat thought-provoking if you ignored how annoying the protagonist was.)

I'm looking forward to FF Versus XIII, but I have no idea about any release dates for either of them.

On a side note I love the protaginist's name, since it used to be my gamertag.

Noctis Lucis Caelum = "Light Of The Night Sky"

Just thought that was always cool.

That there's boring, predictable Latin. The kind you get when someone's pretending to be dark-ish and meaningful. No surprise that Versus is Nomura's personal project in the Fabula Nova Dodgy Latin Marketing Blitz--which probably won't make Squarenix enough money in profits to offset costs. This is why they're pushing a new MMO (FFXIV) so quickly. FFXI has been the only thing keeping the company afloat while they pour more and more money into their long-delayed marquee title. (Well that and Dragon Quest in Japan.)

Back to the Latin subject, I rather prefer "Si non confectus, non reficiat."

And that's because I'm a giant nerd.

Well, when you put it that way, sounds like there's a lot more wrong in Square's upper echelon than even I'm willing to countenance.

But I will say that FFX actually managed to tug some heartstrings with the cosmology and plot-related developments come about from the peculiar death dynamic of the setting. It's not the most original or even the most profound idea but it still managed to take me by surprise. I'd pegged FF as being unable to grow from its adolescent roots when it suddenly sprung out a tragic story that touched upon the meaning of life as reflected by death (and secretly dead/not-really-alive people) and a setup that actively deconstructed heroic cliches endemic to the Japanese fantasy RPG.

When I realized that, and when Tidus stopped being such an irritation, I was able to enjoy the game a lot more.

I just thought it sounded cool, and I was in a Latin class in middle school at the time. I didn't mean to make anyone angry.

Although I prefer, and don't crucify me for this because it's been awhile since Latin with Mr. Vargas in middle school, "Fiat Justitia, Ruat Caelum" , which if my memory's right means "Let justice be done, though the heavens fall."

Also, I thought X was pretty good, though I thought it was pretty messed up about...well..you know.

The fact that it's taking them so long to release it kind of bothers me. Hey, how 'bout we don't go ahead and show a game at thirty E3s before it's finished? One is fine. You aren't Blizzard or Valve, Square. Anticipation is better built if you don't let a word flutter until, let's say, a year before the release.

Thirteen? Really?

I can't think of any other game that has had this many sequels.
Romance of the Three Kingdoms has around thirteen, I believe. It also has various spin-offs and remakes and whatnot (it spawned the popular 'Dynasty Warriors' series, too), akin to Final Fantasy. The difference being that RotTK is not nearly as popular as Final Fantasy.
