Ok, so i know most of you may be rolling your eyes thinking that i have the ultima edition or something, but i had the original game for pc a while ago, and decided that with my new hard drive i could convert the CD's to ISO's, in case i lost them or something. any way, i moved out, got a job and a life and lost the CD's, and promptly forgot about the ISO's. anyway, i found them, and installed the game, patched it to 1.2, added the higher graphics patch, as well as the laptop keyboard one and the chocobo racing fix. My prblem is that the game launches, my screen goes black for a few seconds, and the game goes back to the desktop. i have tried to get it to work with compatitbility settings and the like, but no dice. any help would be appreciated.

Your movie files may be the issue.

That's all I can remember about that problem though, it's been a while. Use that to start you off though.

Buy the disk again!
... Do you seriously mean that? I really hope not, especially after your thread decrying all the people on these forums who apparently knew nothing about games and should leave.

I remember trying to play FFVII on the PC a couple of years ago. One problem I found was that when the game went full 3D (bike section, snowboarding), it didn't have a frame limiter so it was running at 200fps instead of 30fps. This crashed out the bike section every time. The workaround I found was to drop the graphics down to the software 320x240 setting, then bump it back up to hardware 640x480 afterwards.

Coincidentally enough, I had the same when I tried to install it about 3 weeks ago. The game will "launch" to a black screen, wait for about 30 seconds and then shut itself down.

Have you tried running in compatibility mode? I think I had that problem too and running in CM for Windows 2000 or 98 may have fixed it.

What OS are you using? XP or Vista? If it's Xp then you *might* get it to work in compatibility mode(win95 most likely). If it's Vista then chances are that it's never going to work...

I think it might be a DirectX conflict. FF7 will want 3.5 or 5, and you will be running 9 or 10.

I had a thread about this exact thing, about 2 months back. I kinda got it to work.

Check this. [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/18.106117]

I only got it to work as far as the soldiers standing outside of the train. Then, just before Cloud jumps off, it crashes. Goddamn. If you can get anything more off of the thread, let me know.

and yeah, the ultima version works, but since its a, shall we say "less than legal" edition of the game, no support patches or anything are out there

I am in awe of your grammar.

EGAD!! i found it!!...
*ahem* by that i mean i've found a way for the game to work, but you need to roll back the HD patch, and only have it run in 640x480

I tried running it in 640x480 and in windows 95 mode, but it didn't do anything for me. What is this HD patch?
