My boyfriend recently bought FFXIII, trust me it took a while before he decided which console to buy it on.

His decision on what console to buy FFXIII on boiled down to this, graphical difference.

So we went on the internet in search of a FAIR comparison of the two.
We first clicked a youtube link which showed the PS3 version looking far better. The only problem was, the video description said "To prove why the PS3 owns the 360 in every way" and the guy who posted its name was "sonyfan009"... So it lost all credibility (and we later saw why).

So we went to Google and did another search, this time we pulled up a site that had both the PS3 and 360 versions running side by side with the frame rate for both posted.

The honest truth? We couldn't tell a difference.

My boyfriend ended up buying it on the 360 (because he wanted to up his gamerscore). I've noticed nothing strange, no lag, no decrease in visual or sound effects.
And I heard the graphics for the 360 version had to be dumbed down, which is why I wanted my boyfriend to get it for PS3, but I see nothing wrong with the 360 version.

As anyone been able to see an honest graphical difference between the two?

From what I understand, the 360 version is sliiightly blurrier on the cutscenes or something, and I think the overall quality is ever so slightly decreased. But it's nothing at all that is blatantly noticeable.

From what I've heard, if you run both right beside eachother on high quality TVs the PS3 version will look marginally better but that's about it. There are no major differences I've heard of, and nothing really noticeable unless you've got 2 screens side by side to compare.

Why sir, I have just that. Here's a few sites I've found that show the games side by side.
I prefer the second, because the first doesn't show the games at the EXACT same time, so it's a bit harder to compare.

I feel Eurogamer did a better job because the cutscenes/fight scenes are done at the same time, plus you can see the frame rate.

As I've stated in every post similar to this in terms of the graphic comparisons, they are frigging identical except that hte ps3 tends to be darker, while the 360 is lighter for some reason.

I got it launch for the PS3 and my friend watched me play the first three or four hours. He got the 360 version, and said he hasn't noticed a bit of diffrence.
From what I've heard here and there, the PS3 version has slight lag in some cutsences, and the 360 can some times lag in Pulse and battles.

Though you can adjust the brightness, so it doesn't matter.

The PS3 version renders in a higher quality than the 360 version and has uncompressed cutscenes so it is graphically superior but it isn't a big enough difference to matter.

True and normally, I'd wholeheartedly agree with you.
Since FFXIII was first made for the PS3, then for the 360, I had heard there was a remarkable graphical difference. Basically, they said the PS3 retained its beautiful graphics while the 360 version had to be dumbed down quite a bit.
I was wondering if this was true.

But if this were a normal cross console release (like Ghostbusters) then I would not have even asked.

Last time I was even remotely interested in this I heard something along the lines of PS3 has the potential to look better but since it was purposely designed so that developers wouldn't be able to unlock the full potential straight away it's slightly worse/the same/only slightly better (depending where you read) than the 360 currently (or whenever it was I read that). Honestly I don't really know or care.

The only thing that comes to mind in terms of difference in comparative videos I've seen was in Dragon Age: Origins. I think one of them had better textures but weird graphics bugs like objects disappearing when the camera angle changed and stuff... It still wasn't even a huge difference anyway. Not as radical as the difference between either of the console versions and the PC version at the highest settings. Anyway I got Final Fantasy on 360 and it looks brilliant. I don't know how much better it could be on PS3 but nothing that I could imagine would make me change my mind.

I didn't actually mean that vindictively, it was more anger aimed at the people who say one's better than the other. Sorry if you thought I was trying to offend you.

I was doing the same thing (since I own both) and the only real difference I found was in the hair. I went with the PS3 though since it had less discs.

Haha, I wasn't really getting on to you or anything, I was just saying that I normally don't care about graphics, but this game was supposed to have a very noticable difference. ;) I figured you weren't trying to single me out. No biggie.

I've seem this pathetic little war rage on for years now.
I have owned both consoles since launch and have yet to find a valid reason to choose one over the other in terms of a dual release.

I choose the 360 simply because most of my friends buy on the 360.
With a solo game, it wouldnt matter to me, I'd get it on whatever console had the best deal.

The only thing I do consider is if any console has exclusive content or download content, beyond that I ignore desperate fanboys trying to justify to the world why they can only afford one console and are venting rage at missing some kick ass games.
