Hi all,
Is Final Fantasy 13 Lightning Returns any good? Because i'm thinking of getting it for Xbox 360 but will i understand the backstory and lore despite never playing any Final Fantasy game?

Er...honestly, I would say stay away. I'm having a blast playing it, but I played the first two games. If you haven't done that, the game has a bunch of lore datalog entries to try and catch you up on characters and events, but you're going to be lost. It's a very in-depth story and it is constantly referring to past events under the assumption that you know what it's talking about.
Now, if you had played the other games and enjoyed them, I would say you need to pick this up. Like I said, I'm having a lot of fun playing it.

As far as gameplay goes, it's rather average I suppose. Basic controls, usual formula of staggering enemies and running around different areas. But the costumes sure are fun to change into.

No!!! Stay away!!! If you see a copy of it burn it with fire. It is so tedious and boring. A few examples of the quests you can enjoy are:

running around town answering phonecalls while fighting the same 3 monsters (for no experience)

being told to find something that is located somewhere at sometime (because you are always on the clock but people and things only appear at specific times)

returning to the same guy 3 times everday at noon to listen to poorly written dialogue

Features also include a mediocore combat system. Being teleported at 6am no matter what you are doing. And one of the cheapest bosses I have ever seen (one who can spam attacks while you are regulated by the ATB). The whole things feels like it was built to sell strat guides which you will spend more time reading than you will playing. That is the only logical conclusion I can come up with for the reasoning behind the clock and the X amount of days til the world ends

It sounds like a really, really shitty version of Majora's Mask, but with ATB.

Go watch Jesse Cox, a massive FF fanboy, try and play through it. He couldn't get more than a couple hours in. I don't blame him.

If you want an rpg on the 360, try lost odyssey or tales of vesperia.
if you want an arpg, try dark souls or darksiders.

Lightning returns is a sequel to a sequel of a mediocre game, you'll most likely miss a lot if you don't play the first 2 games which are... polarizing.

I played the demo and it was very meh. Hate the whole changing clothes thing just because your on your own. Dont have 2 companions? Why not add two changes of clothing instead. So stupid. Dont waste your time with it.....or just play the demo first and make your opinion from that.
