FF1 isn't a good game. It's fun to start, but it's a little too open world. There's no indication of where to go next so after a point you'll be wandering around trying to find the next plot hook. Might be OK for its time, but now it's pretty weak.
Exactly. I thought it would be great to go back to the "first", and see how it all started, but I got lost within the first couple hours. Granted, I could have made the effort to go back, and try to figure out what was next, or look up a guide online, but the fact that I had to kinda turned me off.
I guess you guys had very little patience, or didn't know about the clues that the dancer in Cornelia gives you. Honestly, there are only like 2 or 3 actual places in the game where you would be unsure of to go to (like getting the air ship), but the rest is pretty linear and not that hard to follow.
So yea OP, protip: If you are unsure of where to go, talk to the dancer in Cornelia, she gives you pretty obvious hints up until you get the air ship at least. And by that point you won't need her.
It was a good game for its time and it's still a good game even today if you just wanna run through a clean and simple RPG, and it's a decent starting point for beginners.
As for the magic question, what tiers of magic you can purchase and use are dependent on your level and class of course. Lvl 7 and 8 are fairly low in the game and you won't be able to unlock all the spells until level30-40 if I remember correctly. Once you reach level 50-60 you are pretty much strong enough to win the game with some ease.
