The very last few line from The Amber Spyglass (I might be paraphrasing slightly): "We build" "Build what?" "The Republic of Heaven"
And another line from the same book: "Tell them stories" which is the idea that, no matter what lies beyond us after death, we must make sure that we have worthwhile stories to tell from our adventures in this life. In other words, make every second count
