Well I got my copy, and honest to good I didn't expect to become this addictive. Minus a few hour breaks for food I have been playing for 22 hours strait, and one quick sleep period before that I have been playing non-stop FIFA. I expected this to happen with Skyrim or the old republic, But not FIFA. Even my non-football liking friends have brought it. ITS AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Please don't let this become the new Madden...

EDIT: I mean in terms of higher sales=lower quality. I enjoy both Madden and FIFA, though Madden has gone way downhill in the last few years (with the exception of '11).

OT: Having shelled out 60 bucks for a shitty PC port of the game, I more skeptic about this than usual, especially with the Origin business. I might just be tempted to dust off my 360, but I'm waiting for a friend to get it, first, so that I can try out and see if it's really worth it. I mean, I already know that the changes and the squad updates aren't worth $59.99, but three months into 2012, I'd be the only guy on campus not owning FIFA 12.
I heard that contrary to the last couple of years the PC version of Fifa 12 will actually be the same version as the consoles are getting. For instance, Fifa 11 for the PC was basically Fifa 10 for Xbox, except they changed the menu skins and stuff like that to make it look like 11.

I'm very curious to see how much the PC version improved this year.
FIFA 11 for the PC is very different from FIFA 11 for the Xbox. Other than minor differences like the menu system and passing style, FIFA 11 for the PC retains the FIFA 10 style of penalties i.e. select direction and press shoot, while FIFA 11 for the console has a system of penalties based on player rating and the stakes involved in the penalty.

Well I didn't know this was out.
But this makes sense, I've seen a lot of people playing some sort of football game during classes, I guess most likely that's the very same thing that this article is talking about.
It's been a long time since i last played sports game, but seems i should check this one out. I wonder if there's a demo.

Not THAT surprising, considering that Fifa is a multi-platform game, whilst Gears is only on the 360. Don't think it'll be the game that sells the most this year though.

These series started simultaneously

FIFA is not the new MADDEN

FIFA has probably allways outsold madden because madden has to compete with the hockey game you guys get and still very much the same some fifa players in the U.S

Vilest ignorance I've seen on the escapist to date

edit :

As of 2011, the FIFA franchise has been localized into 18 languages and available in 51 countries. The series has sold more than 100 million copies worldwide, making it one of the best-selling video game franchises. Also FIFA 12 holds the record for the "fastest selling sports game ever" with over 3.2 million games sold and over $186 million generated at retail in its first week of release.

Think this might shine a bright light on all of you :)

2d edit for the guy I was quoting :
" making FIFA the most profitable EA Sports title, thanks to its global audience and lower license costs compared to Madden."

Probably cause its the only game that no one can complain about it been advertised...

Also, just cause i dont trust EA, i dont really trust these numbers, plus ive heard similar things about other games which were later proved untrue.

I don't really understand how this is good news OR bad news.

It's a game with mass appeal that was advertised fucking everywhere. It does everything it sets out to do very well.

Nothing special, move along goes my mind like the psychotic ***** she is.

I don't really have anything against FIFA, or sports games in particular. But my question is this: what is the bloody point, of releasing a new one of these every darn year? I mean, how much can you really improve the formula?
Er same reason football shirts are released every day (or whatever it is, season?) because its easy money and the formula can always be improved upon even if only slightly as it will be being released so regularly but it dosent have to make massive strides just be competent enough it is aimed at fans of the sport (not gamers specifically) and to be honest whats the competition pro evo? Inazuma eleven?

I must say I am surprised at the figures though I dont know anyone who has bought this game and im from the UK where they dont shut up about the damn sport.

Still I wonder how MW3 and BF3 will do would be quite amusing if they dont top Fifa but im not too worried there is always some record they can break usually with numbers pulled out of a `highly respectable` top hat.

PC version is identical to consoles this year. I wouldn't be surprised if that contributed a lot to the increase in sales.

I have the game. I wasn't dead happy about having to install Origin to play it, but it's an excellent football game.

Who the hell keeps buying this game? Is it really that much better and different from the other ~10 previous versions? In my opinion, this is terrible news at it will encourage devs to be less creative and just churn the same game out annually with a different colour on the box.

Well, what I meant was that Madden has seen a marked decrease in quality over the last few years (though '11 is a great improvement). That was cute how you insulted me, though.

EDIT:
Oh, and I'm ignorant for not being able to quote sales figures off the top of my head?

I'll buy it next year when FIFA 13 comes out. 'Till then I'll go buy FIFA 11 now, and see how that goes. They are only £7.70 on Amazon.

I can believe it, FIFA is so damn popular. Everyone I know (being a 6th former) gets each new iteration. I mean, I' do too :p it's bloody good fun, and I think this one tweaks enough to be worth shelling out for. So I did...

Yeah it's awesome.

Feh, I can't really justify tossing down £60 on an expansion pack for Fifa 2011 (that's really all Fifa 2010 is after all). But then if you like sports games then you probably don't really sympathise with me spending the same amount of money on New Vegas .

Just because I don't understand it doesn't make it bad. It's just EA capitalising (those greedy, greedy capitalist swine) on a market that's already there - let 'em feed while the trough is high, I say. The whole sports thing is a lucrative business, I guess.

I do know a lot of people who only own X-box's and PS3's so they can play the newest edition of Fifa or Pro Evo . This is the thing that makes me weep, that and the gallon of vodka I've just consumed.

It's already the new madden everywhere but the U.S. And even here, it's starting to see a much greater following than one would expect from a soccer (football, whatever you want to call it) game.

The PC version is great. I've not played the previous installments (my last football game was 2010 World Cup, which didn't get a PC release), but I am absolutely loving FIFA 12. I see a major leap forward in most aspects of the game from what I had at this time last year. If FIFA 10 worked similarly, I can't see how anyone would complain about the new game being "just a roster update and a new tackle engine".

Being an American however, I am genuinely surprised that the game is actually this huge. It's no secret that soccer is the world's favorite game, but I did not expect it would prove more of a draw than dudes chainsawing monsters in half with exaggerated phallic metaphors.
You massively underestimate the Enlgish's devoted love for this sport. The fine English Football louts, lovely.
Don't forget Italians, my town is FILLED with them.

Why are people suprised? There are a fuckton of us europeans around, and 50% percent of the male population likes football. It's inevitable that there are going to be a large crossover between gamers and football fanatics.

Not surprising to me. Football has a huge fanbase and the improvements over FIFA 11 are considerable. PES seems to be losing populariy and that´s good business for FIFA.
