What even is the point in doing spoof movies these days when the only entries to the genre are painfully unfunny vanity projects full of cultural references that immediately date the damn things? Spoof movies can be so good if they're done right, some bits will get dated but the greats of the genre are bonafide classics in their own right with plenty of bits that stand the test of time.
Spoofs are easy to do badly but hard to get right, any idiot with a lack of comedic writing talent can point and laugh at whatever's recently been on the screen. There's obviously a lot of comedy to be had by poking fun at recent films, the success of various YouTube series can testify to that. I despair that there are some really talentless people (or people whose talent dried up long ago) who get to waste millions on churning out the same unfunny rubbish that'll be out of date in a couple of months. The budgets for these things aren't massive, so even a meagre box office draw is unlikely to be a loss for the studio/publisher.
Cheap, nasty, unfunny films are here to stay because people will go to see it and some will even like it. We've all got that one friend who loves this stuff, buys a cinema ticket, buys the DVD, keeps them financially viable.
