So we've heard a lot about how SOPA sucks. I've spread the word. I've written letters to my representatives in Congress.
But this has the potential to REALLY make things happen on a big level:
http://penny-arcade.com/patv/episode/stand-together-the-gaming-community-vs-sopa-and-pipa
If you're too lazy/busy to watch the video, here's the rundown:
-SOPA/PIPA is being backed by the ESA (Entertainment Software Association)
-ESA is considered by many to the be the "voice" of the gaming industry
-ESA gets most of their money from E3
How do we get the ESA to stop backing SOPA? Hit them where it hurts. Their wallets.
Until the ESA pulls their support of SOPA, boycott E3. Don't go, don't watch the live streams, don't read E3-related news stories, don't talk about it, and most of all, encourage your favorite games' journalists to join the boycott and spread the word.
I'm on board. I watched the live streams last year and thought, "Well that was mostly a waste of time," so I'll have no issue ignoring it this year. As for major coverage, I think I'm going to start e-mailing Yahtzee and encourage him to ignore all things E3-related. Since he hates E3 anyway, I think we can get him on board; this would sadly mean no "E3 hype massacre" ZP or XP this year, but it's a worthy sacrifice in my opinion.
So here we are. Either spread the word, start e-mailing Yahtzee/Angry Joe/etc, or discuss how wrong I am for supporting this. Your choice.
