I can't answer your question about arcade sticks. Some people might prefer an american style gate, instead of the japanese more common square gates.
I got hori mini because it was cheap, and a good way to try getting used to them, and if i didnt like it, its only $50. I can see it's weakness of being light, meaning that it moves around table too easily and you can't play on your lap, and often people say that it doesn't work well if you have bigger hands. Durability might not be as good(not sure). But you don't expect it to be perfect at around 1/4 the price of medium end sticks though, so i might recommend trying the same thing. you may try it for awhile, get frustrated and go back to pad. The draw back is that if you like it, you may want to get a better stick. I figure if you spend a couple 100 regardless, an extra 50 might not be that bad. One day I might go back to pad completely, or get a better stick. But I might as well use the mini for a bit longer.

if you want to play in japan, you should probably use stick. since i recall a stick vs pad vid, where they said they only use stick in japan being that arcades are still popular, and where most good players play. which means if you pad, it'll be hard to play them.

I don't use discord so sadly skype has to be it. I already have everyone on it so switching over to a new thing and adding people is a pain lol. Also I like archiving the fgc knowledge.


I play on a sixaxis so I have no stick knowledge personally, people tell me hexagonal gate and clicking sticks are good and that you wanna get a good one right off, not cheap out on it. Modding it outside of the artwork is something you wanna do after you establish what kind of buttons and stick you like, not before.

hex gates are odd nowadays. the best stick/controller is what you are used to most. I don't know if there's many analytical comparisons in articles/vids, because it's not as common for people to get adapt at multiple gates. usually someone would get used to one controller and stick to it.
if you just start out squares probably the way to go, just because if you have to borrow a stick, or play in an arcade, they are square gates 90% of the time. Which would be handy if you dont want to carry a stick to meetups or tournaments, or you lose it/break it. japanese players would swear by square gates, since arcades are still popular there.

I'll sum up general advantages of both
stick
+looks better/cooler, customize artwork
+durability(i'm going with what i've read online here)
+feels more natural being able to push more than 1 button easier, since i rely on triggers while using controller. I find my self pushing multiple buttons to throw, cancel, burst, overdrive cancel etc easily now. though some games have things that timing is more tight, you can still set an extra button to cheat if you want.
+faster movements. eventhough distance is longer, it's generally easier to move a whole wrist faster than a thumb
+feel accuracy of some moves easier
+do not have to run out of triggers, this only happenned with nitro+ because of assists. it's hard to use a trigger for throwing, 2 assists, burst and 2 button supers.
+can adapt to playing in arcades
+thumb won't get tired.

Controller
+trigger shortcuts, make some things easy.
+easy to access extra buttons. for some reason it feels kind of unnatural to use more than 3 buttons in a row for me, since hand position would have to change. I usually just push more than 1 button at once in most games. theres always a % of failing there
+cheap and easy to replace($60 compared to 200) easy to find in stores, while you usually have to buy sticks from a person or online. since not even most gaming stores carry them these days
+easy to transport. most friends with a ps4 would have spare ds4 if you go over. it's small enough to fit in pocket. compared to lugging around a 20lb arcade stick and having to put it in a gym bag
+wired or wireless with any universal usb stick. where as every stick I know is wired only.

either way there will be a learning curve and period, where you can't do anything. but that's the same with a controller if you are not used to it. If you are used to a controller, it might be better to just stick with it. or you can always do what I do and try getting a mini, if you are unsure and dont want to invest 100s right away for something you may or may not use.

That's fine, and I can be reached on skype by the same username as here, klaynexas3. I'll actually be doing some practice tonight in BBCF so if either of you are game I'd be down for some matches. I'm trying to learn Mu(is that how they spell it?) And feel like I'm getting a decent handle on understanding her as a character, though I still often mess up my inputs when trying to perform commands.

Also I think I'm going to grab a Hori Pro 4 Kai, while a lot of places say to start out cheap to see if you like the feel, I do remember a lot of playing Tekken at the local arcade and at home and feeling a lot more in control with the stick, so it is something I do want to migrate to over a pad, it's just a matter of getting use to using one again and from the research that seems to be a good choice for the price and a good standard to start working with.

So are you guys going to be watching the Arc Game Awards tournament on Friday? What do you think they're going to talk about at the presentation in the morning? I'm really excited to get to watch it.

My skype is dreiko-sama as I said above, and am still hooked on Shadowverse, but I will make an effort to stop grinding vampires and ninjas and play some bb tonight, toh!

Mori offered a drawing of Gamma-3 (Mu's older sister or something, who knows XD) so I expect them to announce a new GG or a patch for BB or even both. Maybe a couple of new games too like Xblaze which gave us the glorious Es. I don't know if I'll watch it live but I will watch it eventually, during my downtime I like analyzing matches. At a certain point it transforms from looking at players way better than you to comparing notes with a classmate so it's a different kind of experience but still fun .

Oh, and is anyone else going to be getting Tekken 7? Tekken holds a special place in my heart from a child, but also just the Tekken tour last year really made me excited for Tekken again, it made me want to play.

I have actually never owned a Street Fighter game, but everyone always talks about 2, and having that as a native game to play on the go, and the joy con controller will work as two controllets for that, so I'm a bit excited to check it out. Also, I never knew how much I wanted a game like Arms until I saw the full gameplay for it, and I have to say that I am almost sold on that one. Give me some more info and I'll get it first day.

You wouldn't wanna use the portable switch controller for fighters though, it has no D pad, only an analogue and you can't play fighters with analogues, you would wanna use the pro controller. Also apparently on their website they list blazblue among switch titles so if I get one game for portable play it'd be that lol.

I am thinking of trying to play revelator, or aquapazza a bit more. higher chance of xrd because no1 plays AP, which also seems to have input lag from the 1 match I played.

I might get tekken 7 but unsure. it looks like it'll be released in an odd time of year for me(complicated schedule)

It is apparently rebalanced again i.e different to HDR Remix and ST. Personally I never liked SF2 when it went super. SF2 Turbo is imo the best SF2 game but for some reason I am also excited by this announcement lol will definitely be using the old sprites though because those new visuals are ugly as sin. Even after all this time SF2T is still my favourite 2d fighter of all time I just hope it has the correct feel because I dont know what they did with the 15th anniversary version but that was messed up frame drops all over the place offline made it unplayable on PS2 for me and still bad on Xbox.

Never really got to play HDR. Evil Ryu and Violent Ken are fun additions (for ultra) but I would have loved to have seen more like Shadow lady and Mecha Zangief for instance.

Other news Baiken is announced for Revelator 2 which is an expansion pack for Revelator (not new game apparently so you can buy an upgrade or complete new disc) and she looks great. I have always liked the character but never really been that hyped for her but for some reason the way they revealed her has made me really look forward to her arrival even if I likely wont get much chance to play (as usual). A new character business ninja Answer has also been announced but he looked like one of the weaker (in visual flair) GG characters to me.

I am definitely getting T7 I was quite impresed by my brief time with the game in arcades and apparently it has only improved since then. Dont think there is an actual solid release date yet just Q1 unless I am mistaken (possible).

I have heard March as rumours but nothing concrete. Their are also rumours of Dissidia arcade coming to consoles in March in Japan at least. Personally I dont buy that but it would be great if true although no Tifa would be a huge downside.

Baiken, Answer and new sequel for Xrd Revelator announced. Ps3/Ps4. You can upgrade your existing revelator copy with a dlc upgrade if you want to not buy the game again. Arcade version out in spring, console version who knows, I'd guess Autumn personally, for Japan.

update to stick selecting now that i tried another stick. it can be hard adapting even with the same gate, a lot of sticks are looser/tighter. I personally found it not too hard to do 236,623,etc moves after a few minutes. but had trouble dashing consistently.other player told me he can probably never adapt to a more arcade style sensitivity stick. thats why most people bring there own sticks to meetups/tournaments.

it still is easier to adapt to a new sensitive stick, since it took me a long time just to do moves consistently from pad to stick conversion. now if i went to an oct gate, it might take longer.

Half the reason I would get SFII for the Switch would just be to have something for friendlies when me and my friends aren't doing Smash, so I wouldn't care so much with using an analog stick for fucking about. I don't think I want BBCF for my Switch because my fight stick wouldn't work for it right away, and a pro controller is expensive, and would be detrimental to my learning of the game if I get a stick anyway. Now, with modding I'm sure I could get the stick to work for the Switch, but unless I get the Madcatz TE2 I'd void my warranty doing so, and don't want to run that risk on such pricey sticks. Though I probably will get it for PC when that releases, just to support the scene for PC.

I am excited for Revelator 2 though, I actually didn't get a physical copy of it for my PS4, I'm running with a downloaded one because at the time I had no one else to play it with, so there was no reason to have a disk. Now I actually have friends to play with in person, so I'm excited to have a reason to actually get a physical disk outside of convenience.

You don't wanna get the disc for rev 2, that'd be way more expensive than just patching your rev into rev 2.

But I actually want a physical disc as is, this just gives me another reason to pick up a physical copy outside of my insanity. I initially bought it online just thinking it'd be something on the side to enjoy, rather than falling in love with the anime scene. I had already thought about doing so with just double buying Rev, now I have an excuse. Though I wonder if it will come with the DLC or not, because if it does, I haven't bought the DLC characters yet, and with Amazon prime I'd already get a discount, so I'd be looking at only paying something like ten more dollars for a physical copy with all DLC rather than paying sixty for a new physical copy, plus the DLC and then the Rev 2 upgrade cost.

The thing with the capcom stuff is that if you are in the anime community, you're actually pretty isolated from it so you are not second rate status. You may have like a handful of people who also play SF come and participate and that's great of course but this environment where capcom gets first class treatment is actually fully alien to anyone in an actual scene outside of capcom. Why exactly is it even necessary to submit yourself to such a thing and spend all this money when you will be treated inferior. Just go to Japan for Arc revo or Toushinsai etc. Vegas is nice but Tokyo is better by far. I frankly just refuse to cede the ground, if just being big is all that counts then fighters are all trash compared to League of Legends or CSGO anyways lol. I am the quality over quantity type of person, an event can still be amazing and get you addicted even if it is small as long as enough impactful experiences occur at it.

Quality of quantity is something I wish more people would abide by. Honestly I would adore going to see the Arc Revolution Cup but that, and Japan in general, are sadly out of my budget even more so. Both are still something I also need to do once in my life.

My instinct tells me that Rev 2 will contain all the dlc chars for the basic revelator in all versions and definitely in the disc version. All of them were completely free for a week or two anyways even if you didn't own the game so all you had to do was go on the psn and DL them. Look out so you won't miss out like that in the future.
