I noticed something in the thread about the 90's about the film "Speed" being rated "R" in some regions (I'm guessing the USA) and "PG" in the UK.

I checked my DVD collection and found a few others that might raise some eyebrows:

Platoon: 15
Full Metal Jacket: 15
Highlander: 15
Apocalypse Now: 15
Deathwatch: 15 (A bit obscure but some seriously gruesome scenes.

Anyone got any others?

A Hermit's Cave
The original Clash of the Titans is a PG... PG?! Watching that back when I was fourteen, it still made me shit myself...

Also, Being There. No nudity, no harsh language, no violence... and yet it was rated as an 18 at one point.

PS Willkommen...

"Sixteen Candles". PG...
There are tits in, like, the first five minutes of that film! At first I was bummed I was watching what seemed like a PG chick flick. Then I was excited I was watching a PG chick flick.

I saw a Speed DVD in Blockbusters yesterday and it was a 15...
I can't believe that the Inbetweeners Movie is a 15. It's worse than the show. (By the way, I saw it today and it's the funniest film I have ever seen.)
I also can't believe some of the Irish age ratings (they're usually next to the Uk rating on the disc) Some of them are amazingly harsh like Casino Royal a 15, The Dark Knight a 15 and Shaun of the Dead an 18.

Pretty much anything rated 12 in france, http://www.imdb.com/search/title?certificates=fr:_12

Most notable titles are; Requiem for a Dream, Inglorious Basterds, Pulp Fiction, Watchmen, Halloween, Final Destination 1-4, Friday the 13th (2009) and Machete.

I find it quite amusing that when you see an 'unrated' version of an American comedy here (probably because of some nudity and sex jokes) there's usually a Dutch age rating on it indicating the material is not appropriate for children younger than six years.

The Dark Knight was a 12A in England. I don't really know how that worked, I mean sure there wasn't any on-screen gore but... it was heavily-implied! Heavily!

Anyway, I'm just playing the part of the oversensitive religious American housewife [http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-rN6Wc1JejzU/S37U6c5OZuI/AAAAAAAAA7o/A1JMTrVZpIA/s1600/thinkofthechildren.jpg] here. I saw it when I was about 13 or 14 and I thought it was fantastic. Gets better every time, too.

The Return to Oz should have been Rated F for FUCKING HELL, WHEELERS ARE TERROR IN ITS PUREST FORM.

PG, my ass. That movie is full of frightening shit. Gave me nightmares as a kid. And this is from a guy who grew up watching slasher flicks for funsies.

Any Disney film with a 12 rating.

Means I have to take my younger kids to watch them instead of letting them go with friends and some of them are shit beyond words.

Drop the rating to a "U" and stop torturing parents you sadistic bastards.

"A Serbian Movie". It shouldn't exist, let alone have a rating. There's no rating strong enough for that... thing.

Seriously, I don't get shocked easy, let alone by movies (last time was the rape scene in "Irreversible") but "A Serbian Movie" not only goes too far, it crosses the line running and heads straight for the horizon. Seriously, newborn rape? Are you fucking kidding me?! And the fact that it's NOT the most disgusting thing in the movie is even more troublesome!

My copy of Princess Mononoke says for 7 and older. The movie has decapitations and dismemberments, and at one point a character gets a huge hole blown through his chest and bleeds quite a lot. But hey, it's animated, therefore it's for kids, right?

Then there's this one chinese film that I can't remember the name of, which was rated 11+ in France, 15+ in Finland, but X in the US. It was for sexual content obviously.

Also, this isn't for a film, but I noticed that the PEGI rating for Duke Nukem Forever doesn't have the "sexual content" icon, but Freshly Picked: Tingle's Rosy Rupeeland does. And that was rated 7+.

"Terkel i knibe"

It's an animated movie produced in Denmark a couple of years back.
It contains scenes like these:
There's also quite a few references to sexuality and drug use in there. (For, example, when the sailor guy's speech (in which he tells the groom that the bride (his daughter, I think) has an awesome asshole) is broken off by the groom, he says "sit down, and shut up, I'll buy you a whore")

Age rating? 7 years and up (I think) in Denmark, 12 and up in Norway.

Commando, with Arnold Schwarzenne, Shwar, sch- fuck it, you know the guy. That film was as tame as anything, but it somehow managed an R rating here in Oz. :p

I thought of this as soon as I saw the title, did the raters fall asleep during the fighting or something?! A first my parents disagreed with me that it shouldn't be a U until I asked them whether they would want my sister (who was five or six at the time) to watch it.

"Topsy Turvy", a "Universal" (all ages) rated, quirky movie about the lives of Gilbert and Sullivan. Which also features flagrant full frontal nudity, prostitution, swearing, distressing scenes of mental illness etc.

Ninja'd, that is incredibly strange. It Should at least be a 12 for the decapitations alone, here it's a PG.

Do you know what else is a PG? Grave of the Fireflies...yeah, no joke.
