Hi guys, i'm just starting off Final Fantasy 13 (so no spoilers please) and i just want to know;

Is there anything that i need to do or not do whilst playing through?
i.e. in FF12 there was a set of treasure chests which, if opened, would mean that you couldn't get the ultimate lance in the game.

Also, is there anywhere that has important stuff that i can't go back to after completing the game?

Thanks.

Just keep playing until you reach the 15 hour game mark, then stop playing because of how dull the game is.

The single most important thing to do is sell the game and put the money toward something decent.

Jesus christ guys, JOKE IS OLD. Leave him the fuck alone, he wants advice. Don't you have anything better to do? We get it. The game didn't appeal to you.

OT: I have to agree that maybe if you prefer to play the game in that way, you should get a strategy guide. I also recommend you not to listen to most of these guys, and rather build an opinion for yourself. If you don't like the game, that's ok, but don't hate it because people tell you to.

Also, be sure to find out what the hell those sandals you can get in Gran Pulse are named, which if you max out their level, will transform into sandals that give the bearer auto-haste when they get critical health.

Um, max out your skill trees every time they open up. Um, some chests, but they;re retarded easy to find.
Oh, and don't name the chocobo. It will destroy the world.
Also, sell the game. Unless you are really drawn into the story, then don't waste your time.

Use potions whenever anything looks like it might go slightly wrong.
They're ridiculously cheap and there's nothing else to spend your money on until you want the ultimate weapons near the end.

That's all I can think of to be helpful. I don't think anything's ever made impossible to get.

People probably shouldn't use this thread to ***** about the game, he's asking for help with playing it, not opinions.
I didn't do absolutely everything in the game, I didn't even get all the hidden trophies which I thought I would whilst playing it.
The Eidolons (sp?) all have to be fought differently; you have to constantly guard when fighting the Shiva sisters for example. There's plenty of guides online if you ever get stuck, like I used to.
I got everyone to learn medic too, if you have the time, get them all to learn everything.

That's a forgotten gem of the game. The eidolon battles are very interesting, IMHO. Can't say that most of people's criticism towards the game could count towards those.

Don't worry just replace A with X and then go to sleep and when you wake up the game will be beaten.

The eidolon battles were stupid. It was a bad idea. If we must fight the summons, GF's, eidolons, etc... to get them then it should be a normal boss fight not a "guess what you have to do to win" fight.

If you scanned the eidolons, didn't it always tell you the same strategy which tells you nothing?
And you're one of the people who complain that the battle system is dumbed down? =S Because apparently, one of the smartest parts of tactics in the game flew RIGHT past you.

Protip: when searching for information about a game, do not come to a place where a whole bunch of people dislike the game, and then ask for help about said game.

Seriously, consult either the official strategy guide, or find an online walkthrough written by people who care.

I like the massive imbalance between people telling him its crap. Then those defending it, aka saying form your own opinion.

Personally there is nothing to miss. I wish I had the time I invested back. Square has lost almost all faith in me except for handhelds. That may be waning, we'll see how ff4heroes of light does.

I recommend consulting a strategy guide for some of the later bosses, and once you get to Gran Pulse you'll need to grind a bit to continue easily.
That's all their is really, unless you want to get all the achievements, in which case I recommend keeping an achievement guide close at hand.

I wish people would stop trolling this thread; spouting stupid lines which others have said a million times before does not make you clever. "Walk forward and press A lolololol" I'd like to see you actually do that and make it passed 2 percent of the game.

Why would that make any sense?
"Ohh I can beat the summons anyway, why bother using them?"

They were weak anyway, have been since FFX.
While that's true and you would only really use them in dire circumstances, the fact that these creatures are supposed to be almighty and able to defeat anything, the fact that they are testing your powers and your ability to deal with different situations makes a lot more sense than you being able to beat them to a pulp eventually.

What makes more sense doesn't always improve gameplay. Besides one could argue that 3 people defeating one GF is still believable since it's 3 on 1.
3 on 1 with eidolons only happens once in the entire game, just so happens it's bahamut too.

1. FIGHT EVERYTHING. TWICE.
2. Never ignore a treasure chest.
3. Your whole party must multiclass in at least three classes.
4. Never buy new weapons or armor, enemy drops are enough and you can upgrade your tech anyway. The only things you should ever buy are healing items.
5. Never use Deceptisol to skip a battle. Use it instead for a guaranteed sneak attack.
6. Staggering is your friend.

At least, you see there's some kind of thought behind those game.
The story is dumb and uninvolving. Exposition come from either a thesaurus or you own damn crazy imagination. They dress Vanille with as much clothing as Rikku from 10-2 but got her more annoying then Tidus, Cloud, Sephiroth and Squall OR as I like to call them all, the Issue team.
Tidus:"Why won't you love me daddy?" *burst in tears*
Cloud:" Who am i?" *Burst in tears*
Sephiroth:" Mother, look at me mom!" *Burst in tears*
Squall:" Why won't nobody like me?" *Burst in tears*
But hey, Sulking heroes work back then, so they make all of 13 characters like that.

It a fucking nightmare on paper and worst that the product exist in real life.
Dude ALL OF 'EM have problems:

FF9:
Zidane:"My people are gone..." *Bursts into tears*
Garnet:"My mommy wants to kill me even though shes not my mommy she just wants to use me like all the knights of pluto did...." *Bursts into tears cause everyone else is*
Vivi:"My lookalikes are robots-i must be one too!" *Bursts into tears/oil*
Kuja:"I hate you, and you and you. And me. And everything" *Bursts into evil laugh, then tears*

FF10-2:
Yuna:"Hes not dead. I saw him die, but hes not dead!" *Bursts into tears*
Rikku:"That b@tch said i looked fat in this mini skirt and bikini" *Bursts into tears*
Paine:"I'm only here as a Lulu wannabe" *Bursts into tears*

FF12:
Vaan:"I'll never be good enough for anybody" *Bursts into tears*
Penelo:"I secretly have a Vaan shrine. LOOOVVEEE MEEE VAAAAAANNN!!" *Bursts into tears*
Ashe:"My kingdom is ruled by an @$$." *Bursts into tears*
Bashe:"My twin is an @$$." *Bursts into tears*
Balthier:"I love you Fran (not really)"
Fran:"I love you Balthier (not really)"
...
...
...
*Both burst into tears*

NOTE: FF is awesome, but its the character stories that are a bit of a joke.

Not all, Some of them aren't sulking for the majority of the game.

For one scene were after he beat Kuja and to save Gaia... When he come back, he say that his foster-parent is all he need.

Hein? We didn't play the same game, I think. She OVERLY UPSET not because her mother betray her (tho she still love her) but the destruction That Metric ton of blue fat rained with HER EIDOLONS... or whatever it's spell like. But at least she didn't cry about it, She break down and lost her voice... which i had hope they did with Tidus or Vanille.

He's like a 8 year old kid that is trying to grasp the notion of death. He's not a robot but a creature that have less time to live then a dog. Otherwise, he would just repair himself and live forever. Also, I can recall that he just stare at the star and not go emo and while screeming:" I don't want to be remembered like that!" and storm out. Yeah, i'm looking at you Squall.

Kuja:"I hate you, and you and you. And me. And everything" *Bursts into evil laugh, then tears*
[HEADING=1]Wrong![/HEADING]
It's:
Kuja: I don't want to die. How come they can live longer than me? I hate you, and you and you. And me. And everything" *Bursts into evil laugh, then tears*
Edit: BTW Paine: I'm just a Lulu Wannabe *burst into tears*. That joke is epic... I had a hard time catching my breath after reading this.

My advise are:

Grind for "-insert name here- chip" whenever possible, and sell them for Gil later (which you'll need) and don't upgrade weapon too early in the game, upgrade stat+ accessories instead because you'll be switching from party to party.

Also get use to having Hope or Vanille in your party since they'll be your main mages, and healers, and Hope can be a top commando, don't let anyone else convince you otherwise.

Shift your Paradigm often,it might not necessary at early hours, but i can be essential at later fights.

Don't ever set combat speed to slow.

You can use the Retry command (pause the combat and you'll see it) to escape battles, abuse it!

At the beginning of the game, you don't have to fight at all, because you won't get any "CP",but you still get items

Don't ignore stat boosts when spending CP.

always Libra (scan) bosses and tough enemies.

Get Death spell for vanille as soon as possible, you could use it to grind tougher monster isn't immune to death spell.

Well, that's pretty much all i can think of for now.
