I have this problem.I usually can't play a sequel unless I finished it's predecessor.I made it to like the 12th chapter in 13,can't believe I even made it that far,and then just stopped playing.Should I pick up 13 and try to finish it,or is it not worth it and just pick up 13-2.I have Wikipedia open right now I can just read about the conclusion of 13.What would recommend doing?

I know this is pretty stupid,I have very particular gaming habits, but in this case I really could use seeing so different takes on the situation.

Sorry for being "this" guy, but I suggest to leave the game alone and start playing other game. I played FF13 myself and me neither could handle the game.....
Many fans of the game said it get better after 40-50 hours [I think], but I just couldn't do it....

Er...yeah, that doesn't sound like a very good incentive to me. And it really didn't get better after any amount of time, but of course I'm not a fan of the game.

I gave up on Orphan (can't believe I got that far, either) because FFFFFFFFFFFFUCK that boss. Then quite some time later I looked up the ending on YouTube and it made absolutely no sense, so I didn't feel too bad anymore about not finishing the game after all that time and effort because all I would have gotten was an unrewarding conclusion. I played the demo for XIII-2 and it didn't impress me one bit, so unless you already have that game, I'd say just move on to something completely different and actually enjoy your leisure time. I hear gardening can be quite the experience.

Just watch the cut scenes on youtube or look it up on the FF wikia. Its not worth the effort to be honest. The plot is vague enough as it is and playing it wouldn't be that helpful.

XIII-2 makes some improvements, but if you can't bring yourself to finish XIII, there is no way you should think about touching it. Its not bad and you may finish it, but you'd be finishing it out of a sense of duty to the franchise or whatever and that's silly for a game. Buy something completely different that you enjoy.

To answer your question, (but seriously, my recommendation is to wait for Final Fantasy XV and play Tomb Raider now or something) the ending scene of XIII is vital for the plot of XIII-2, but almost nothing else is. Sazh, Hope, Lightning etc are important, but I think you'll have already seen most of their arcs by now (Hope is reconciled with Snow and on good terms with Lightning right?) and almost nothing else is important. I have never and still cannot name a single human antagonist in XIII, nor remember any details about the humans antagonists motivations or organisations and it's just not relevant.

So if you watch the ending cutscene you'll be absolutely ready to go for XIII-2.

Nevertheless XIII-2 creates the same sort of feelings as XIII and I think you need to enjoy the first to enjoy the second, even though the 2nd is better in many ways.

Yeah I enjoyed playing it,and could also see why people would say it's not a good game.Your spot on about how nothing was relevant, not one thing registered with me as far as characters and the setting. It was a mess but I was able to get some comedic value out of it while playing.

I don't have my original save file so it doesn't seem worth it to play through it.I do like what hear as far as the improvements made in 13-2 and it's what I'm in the mood for right now.I'll probably play Bio Shock Infinite before Tomb Raider,I'll get to it eventually. Thanks for the feedback.

I mean don't get me wrong, I'm not a XIII hater and I can understand why people get a lot out of it, it's just hugely flawed. I thought from your OP that you hadn't enjoyed it at all, but if you did find something to enjoy then you can probably find similar things in XIII-2 to enjoy. The character arcs aren't as good, but there's an actual story with actual antagonists and understandable stuff going on. There's some wordbuilding (still not enough though) the timetravel aspect is quite nice and the environments are a huge step up from XIII. The new levelling system is an improvement and although the story still takes a long time to get going, it's a lot quicker than XIII. The biggest problems with the game are 1) If you're character is over-levelled then the combat system still has the problem of feeling like it's dragging without you really needing to do anything meaningful. 2) The environments (and battle graphics) are pretty but it's quite hard to make anything out or get a certain feel. 3) There isn't quite enough wordbuilding.

But these things don't break the game. You just need some goodwill to bear with them. If you quite liked XIII and are in the mood for something similar, then I'd still advise you to look up the end of XIII rather than playthrough it, because at the end of the game I don't think there's much going on apart from the last cutscene, but XIII-2 might have some stuff to offer you.

(And there's plenty of melodrama if you want some comedy too =D)

Not really. I played 13-2 way before I even bought 13.

The only thing you're missing out on is a really messed up final boss and a really pretty CGI ending cutscene.

But you're at chapter 12... outta 13. Just keep pushing through, you've made it this far:)

Do get 13-2 eventually though. It's better in almost every way.
