I'd bet that I would absolutely love the Final Fantasy series.. the only thing keeping me from doing so is that bloody turn-based system. In my humble opinion, it's the second most boring type of combat, second only to MMORPG's press-a-button-and-wait.

*Sigh* Oh well. I'll just miss out again.

I'll admit, I'm not as excited for 13 as I would have been a few years ago. It seemed to me that the quality of the core games was falling due to a focus on repackaging past successes. I believed for a long time that 12 was the culmination of this, but after about 50 hours of gameplay, I have to admit... It's really grown on me. Seems that Square can still write a compelling story, when they're not busy selling remakes of older ones.

The introduction of the first proper female lead in years and characters who aren't bogged down in black, like Sazh Katzroy, leads me to think 13 might be a similar experience to 12; outwardly superficial and flashy, but ultimately satisfying to the long-term gamer. Here's hoping.

Whoah, hey, I think your forgetting about FF6, They've had a heroine in Final Fantasy before, Terra Branford.

*EDIT*
WHOAH, i got trigger happy on the post button, I think I misunderstood you, lol..

Anyway, lets hope they pull something great together for 13.

I said "in years", not "ever". I didn't count Yuna in X-2, because it seemed more of a spin-off. Going by that, it's been forever since a Final Fantasy game was helmed by a female.

On that note, I always thought Celes was the heroine. She has a much more compelling character, anyway...

i loved eternal sonata annoying at times but overall a great game dont make me regret loving it T.T (sorry off topic) final fantasy 13 may turn out to be another 12 (a bad game but you cant stop playing, sorta like 9)
... Whut? IX, likened to XII? Please excuse me while I go have a heart-attack.

I'm interested in seeing how the new battle-system works. If they pull it off right, it'll be a masterpiece. If not...

Ah, but that's a difference between 13 and the others. It isn't turn-based, from what I can tell. Instead, you have a recharging bar, and different moves take up different amounts of that bar. So you can attack at will, but you need to do so strategically. Time it right, and you can pull of truly devastating combos~

There's only one reason I want to check out FFXIII.

My favourite ever videogame composer (other than Koji Kondo and Nobuo Uematsu) is doing the music for it. <3

X-2? Whats that? lol.

Anyway, yeah, celes was great too. That game was kind of great how most characters could be viewed as the main, many of them had lots of development. A friend of mine still swears it to be Locke.

"Ten-Two", the sequel to X. As a game, it's really not all that bad. Brought back the Job Class system, so that's fun. Storywise, though, it's just a backwards trek through the towns and temples from X to find Tidus. The whole thing feels kinda pointless. Couldn't help but view it as anything other than a cashgrab by Square.

That was always one of my favorite things about VI; every character was interesting. I still remember how I'd go through a bunch of gil paying for nights at an Inn with Shadow in my party, just to find out, once and for all, his connection to Relm.
I could see Locke as the protagonist. If Terra's the female lead, he's definitely her male counterpart.

I've always been a great fan of anything Final Fantasy. I'll get myself a PS3 just to be able to play 13. FFVI is definitely my favorite from the entire series I own all three versions of that game.

Sorry, perhaps I should have added the /sarcasm after my post, I played FFX-2 as well. It was... Kinda weird. Nooj and Pain were cool though.

Interresting way of seeing Terra and Locke as counterparts, though counterparts in the same game usually end up together... However, Locke ends up with Celes. hmm..

I enjoyed Cyan. He was just an old Knight *cough*samurai*cough* and he loses everything but the need for revenge. Edgar was awesome too. Wow, if I remember correctly, that was my party usually anyway. Edgar, Cyan, Terra and Celes.

Ive always seen the game as hard to tell who the main character actually is, I said terra because they basically say she is the official main character.

man.... 6 deserves a current gen remake... Wow, im totally getting into my own little conversation here, lol. ^__^

I pray to whatever force may be out there in the ever-expanding universe that the battle system will not be shit like in XII.

If it is, I'm going to have to turn my back on the franchise for awhile. Why do you have to go and kill a good thing? People don't play freaking Final Fantasy for a really challenging battle, they play to see a story. It's a freaking RPG, come on.

I'm stoked for FFXIII.
I'm buying a HDTV soon and saving a good $200 so I can buy collectors editions of FFXIII and FFXIII Versus.
Also I'm buying it for my PS3 for obvious reasons.

Ten-two, I agree was a good game. Just like you also I also agree that it was just like backtracking through the entire FF10. Seemed kind of dull at places, but the combat was different (in a good and bad way), which I like. I like to have a change every now and then. Yuna was deffinatley the female lead in this game. On a different note I freaking love the cutscene on FF10-2, where Yuna is singing on top of the ship. Then her outfit changes. That is awsome!

oh so true!
and the battles in XII where to dificult, you could train up 10-20 levels above what you should be naturaly for the place in the game, and you still would have some problems

I really didn't mind the battle system in 12, Can't really understand why so many peolpe hate it so much. It gave you more freedom. Not saying I love that system over all of the others, but I thought it was quite cool.

12 Granted a lot of freedom, which was cool, but I think it still had some kinks to work out. It was kind of slow moving sometimes. It also had the pretty bad gambits for magic. Unless you controlled your team's magic, they'd either never use it, or never have any MP.

12's cutscenes and stuff were cool, and I have been a big fan of the ivalice games anyway. I do think however vaan should have had more to do with the storyline at all, or they should have scrapped it all and made balthier the lead. Heck, balthier even told you he was when you met him, lol.

As long as the battle scenes are better then 10 and incorporates some of the changes made in 12 then im all happy!!
There is never any fault with FF that will ever make me hate it or never want to play it.

The end :D:D
