Okay, I was playing FF7 today and my roommate (the other one, not the jackass) explained that when he first beat the game he was only level 40. Of course, he then played through it again and beat it properly (defeat ultimate, emerald, and ruby weapon, get a gold chocobo, collect all the rare materia, not in that order) and beat it at level 70.

Frankly, this made me a little befuddled. LEVEL 40??? How the hell did he beat the game at level 40? It's like taking three level 25 pokemon to the elite 4 and beating them! I couldn't imagine how he did it... I was level 70 the first time I beat it, and level 85 when I properly beat it.

So I ask you, with a rather specific question: What's the LOWEST level you've ever beaten Final Fantasy 7 with? I'm not talking about one level 40 and two level 99s (although HOW you'd pull that off is astounding), but really talking about the overall level of your final three characters. Were they all around low 70s? Did you win with a high 30s team?

Lowest level - Final Fantasy 7 - endgame. GO!

Edit:
You don't have to have beaten Emerald or Ruby. You don't have to have competed in the Chocobo Races (besides the required one), just the lowest level you've ever entered north crater with.

...99.

I didn't beat the game until i had every materia i wanted.

EDIT: And dispite my best efforts, i never could beat emerald. I put 4 million damage into him before he killed me with his emerald beam. Trust me. I counted.

How did you do that? Did you just avoid every battle? I'm not angry, I'm really perplexed as to HOW someone can beat at such a low level.

I didn't run from many battles, but I never really deviated at all from the plot. If I was supposed to go somewhere, I just went there right away without exploring or grinding or anything, so I never came across more than the bare minimum of random encounters.

I didn't actually do it on purpose, but I was like 11 years old back when FFVII came out so I didn't really know any better. If you're asking how I beat Sephiroth at such a low level, I dunno. But the game isn't really that hard. Not the main storyline bits, anyway.

I couldn't possibly remember at this point but I did beat the game (and most RPGs for that matter) at rather low levels. Likely mid 40s or maybe low 50s. I tend to switch characters around a lot which spreads out exp more, and I hold off any and all sidequests that I need to level grind for until after I have beaten the game once (Via seperate save files) as long as you don't get lost and run along nooks and covered areas it's easy to slip through an area nab all the goodies and be out with minimal monster confrontation. It does make things a lot harder usually, and I'm tempted to try and make myself sound cool and say I do it because I like the challenge, but really I just despise level grinding in solo games.

For bosses and the like which even at low levels are usually the only real threat; playing excessively defensively usually helps get through battles nicely, if slowly since it usually means a lot of the time have two(Or more given the chance) characters constantly healing, buffing and debuffing and only one doing any damage.

Granted, I think I remember hearing that Sephiroth's level is comparative to yours. Apparently if you're a high level, he will be too. So the difficulty is based off of how well you handle your characters.

Yeah, when I first played it I toyed around with all the sidequests, I wanted to get everything. And even when I beat the game the first time I still hadn't beaten ruby or emerald.

I beat it at level 70 the first time, level 40 somethin second time. It really isn't that baffeling to beat an FF game at a low level, the series has always been more or less about how to properly spec out your characters. The right gear and material/skill set up and you can tackle most the game without the need to spend many hours leveling. It requires more thought than the average player is willing to commit though, but it's doable. Hell I often find no need to go beyond level 60 in any RPG because you've pretty much hit that level where you can beat the game and be ready to take on the hard shit.

Hell the last game I ever level capped to 99 in was Crimson Gem Saga, and that's cuz the bosses AND standard enemies will kick your ass if you are lazy. El kaiser and Diavolo were the emerald and Ruby weapon of that game and beating them or the final boss required high friggen levels.
