Hey sorry if this question has already been asked, but if so I'm asking it again. I've heard a lot of good things about the final fantasy series and I was wondering which game is the best for the PS2. I will probably end up playing all of them that are available, but which one is the best? Thanks so much!

FF XII hands down, but that's just my opinion. I don't like the usual turn-based RPG formula, so the fact that XII was so different from the other Final Fantasies made it a winner in my book.

To be honest, all the PS1 Final Fantasy games are better than their counterparts for the PS2. If you can find them, get those instead.

Final Fantasy X is very good, flexible levelling system and good story, unfortunately some of the boss battles are just unfair

I liked FFX since it was turn based but not in active time. It allowed you to play more strategically and make the most of each party member's abilities. I don't think it has too much replay value after completion though, especially with the linear travel route. However, the linear route did make for a good story. I beat this in about 36 hours on my first time through.

FFXII was good too. I'm not too sure about the way you learn abilities in the game though since all of my characters ended up learning the same things and having the same gambits. I'm not very used to having to grind to level up since I don't play online RPGs. I had to force myself through parts of the game just trying to level up. What I liked a lot about this game though was that there were no random battles. There is a lot of replay value in FFXII. If you tried to complete every quest in the game besides the main story, it'd definitely take over 100 hours.

Stay away from FFX-2 though. The gameplay was alright but I found the story to be horrible as a sequel.

You can also get 1, 2, 3, 4, and 6 as ports to the PS1 if you are so inclined. You also get CronoTrigger with 6, so its not a bad find if you get your hands on it.

Like this.

12 is the best, then 10, then X-2

All are good, it's just a matter of how good.

Although, X-2 has a god awful plot and it's resetting of a major characters skill is so great, now anytime a character "forgets" old moves in the sequel, it's the "Yuna Effect"

And how the FUCK did she turn into a pistol packing pop princess? >_< HOW?!

FFX.

FFX-2 is okay, but I don't like direct-sequels in FF. Rarely work.

FFXII is embarrassing. It feels like you are playing a MMORPG on your own, only not in the cool dotHACK way.

Personally, I'd go further back - FFIX is my favourite, FFVII is cool, FFVIII isn't bad either. Oh, and anything that came out in the NES / SNES era (ie: 1 to 6) is awesome.

If your talking strictly PS2 final fantasy games, FF10. 12 is extremely long and quite frankly boring. Once you set gambits up the fights basically play themselves out. 10 has a good story, the combat system is one of the better, and it has Auron. X-2 isn't and shouldn't even be considered an option. Only thing DECENT - the best it gets - is the job system. Everything else sucked monkey balls.

FF10 - Somewhere between good and great
X-2 - decent at BEST
12 - long as boring.

Mopey staff chick to empowered gun-bunny is a good transformation.
It's amazing what the propsect of not facing imminent death will do to a person...

Well she was still facing imminent death from the whole world blowing up thing.

Except this time she decided from the beginning to shoot problems in the face until they go away, and to let the world know it, whereas in FFX all of the angst in the plot is entirely hinged on the fact that Yuna absolutely refused to speak to anyone about her plan to shoot Sin in the face, climb inside it and beat the fuck out of it. Which she was planning from at least the Mi'Hen Highroad. (Coincidentally, that was the exact point at which I realised that I was playing Grandia, and Sin was just Gaea and that by the end of the game we were going to climb inside it and beat the fuck out of it.)

I'd suggest getting a PS1 cheaply and playing the ones on there, but if you're stuck on PS2 I'd say X XII then X2. But you'd also want to look into Kingdom Hearts, and it's sequel. They're just too much damn fun for such a seeming terrible pairing of franchises (how did they get the brooding internalized heroes of Final Fantasy to work so well with the outgoing happy Disney characters!? HOW!?!?!?

Well, I'd recommend Final Fantasy X. Partially because it's pretty good on its own, and partially because it leads into X-2.

X-2 I recommend warmly because it has excellent gameplay and fun characters. It has by no means a very serious story 60-70% of the time, but it's entertaining with lots of neat little sidequests. Also, it has Paine, and lots of HENSHIN action. I do love my HENSHINs. Think... Final Fantasy meets Charlie's Angels and Sailor Moon.

Also, Kingdom Hearts 1 and 2 are quite excellent action RPGs that combine all the lovable stuff from both Sony-era Final Fantasy and classic Disney. I'd say that the first game has better gameplay, but both are great experiences.

Can't say much about XII. It was really interesting initially, but then I just lost interest and have had a hard time picking up the game again.

I thought the PS2 era of Final Fantasy games was rather laughable, but the best of them was probably Final Fantasy X followed closely by its often hated on sequel.

Not saying she wasn't cool in a way, but that made no sense...
