I believe the summon is Golem, whose role in the series is about as major as Kirin.mireko said:Really looking forward to this one. Even though I do kind of hope it ends up being one of the first titles to get remastered for the PS3. Looks almost too pretty for its current system.
7:41 Combat
13:00 Scythe combat!
15:28 Don't recognize that summon..
16:50 But I'm pretty sure that's a giant dog of some sort.
19:26 Airship dogfighting?! YES.
[sub]Also, it's Final Fantasy... with blood![/sub]
I think the summon is Alexander, actually...(Each summon looks differently in each game)mireko said:Really looking forward to this one. Even though I do kind of hope it ends up being one of the first titles to get remastered for the PS3. Looks almost too pretty for its current system.

Oh look, another boring action-y Final Fantasy...9_6 said:Oh look it's another game gone god of war.
Actually, XII introduced summons that are in most Final Fantasy games. Zodiac, Cuchulainn, Zaleras, Adrammelech, and Belias(among a few others) are references to Lucavi from Final Fantasy Tactics, which I would hardly call a crappy spin-off. They even reference Chaos from Final Fantasy I, Zeromus from Final Fantasy IV, and ExDeath from Final Fantasy V.Byere said:Oh look, another boring action-y Final Fantasy...9_6 said:Oh look it's another game gone god of war.
OT: Yes, "giant dog thing" = behemoth, the only thing that seems to have kept it's original look.
The summon, I don't think it's either Alexander OR Golem. If it is either, it's definitely the latter due to it using earth-based attacks (look at how it stomps around and kicking up earth. Alexander is Holy element, remember). It's more than likely it's another new monster used as a summon, much like what they did in XII. Get rid of the summons that everyone knows and loves and bring in crappy spin-offs that have nothing original to them and terrible names that are easy to forget.
I don't think Uematsu would really fit in a game like this, considering the game is about the "horrors or war". Ishimoto is a damn good composer anywho, since Crisis Core and The World Ends With You both had great soundtracks.Cridhe said:They're just not the same without Uematsu's music...
Ok, fair enough, I didn't notice the Shiva/Ifrit/Odin pieces in the vid (or any other vid... FF games haven't interested me since FFX). That being the case, they're probably using the normal bunch.Defense said:Actually, XII introduced summons that are in most Final Fantasy games. And they're still using the same summons for the most part. They have Shiva [http://images.wikia.com/finalfantasy/images/5/50/Siva_Type-0.jpg] and Odin [http://www.ff-type0.net//images/media/4d5602cd_79z38y7l.png] and Ifrit [http://images.wikia.com/finalfantasy/images/7/7c/Type_0_Ifrit_attacking_a_robot.jpg] as well. I doubt they would use 14 completely new summons.
Sorry, I meant most of them were in a Final Fantasy game.Byere said:As for "summons that are in most final fantasy games", I don't remember seeing any of those you mentioned outside of FF Tactics. I'd hardly say that counts as "most" when referring to the entire series. And yes, I realise that a few of the summons in XII refer to previous monsters, the most pronounced of which is Ultima Weapon, not to mention the big baddies from a few of the past games. However, when I said "crappy spin-offs", I meant terribly made summons compared to those of past games in the series, (as I mentioned earlier, "the usual bunch". Aka Shiva, Ifrit, Ramuh, etc).Defense said:Actually, XII introduced summons that are in most Final Fantasy games. Type-0 doesn't have this problem though? In XII, you had little control over the game as is, but when you summoned something, all control went out the window and you had to let it run amok. At least in previous games, when you summoned something it attacked and let you get on with the battle.
Most companies are moving away from turn based gameplay, not just square enix. But apart from that, Tabata actually isn't a bad director. Crisis Core got a lot of love despite its repetitive combat, so that has to say something.I dunno. Maybe it's just because I grew up on the series that I hate how much it's changed. I hate how they've made it too action-oriented when it was built on turn-based gameplay. I know times change as some have gamers, but they (SquareEnix) have just replaced any form of real in-depth story with high-speed gameplay... it just feels like an insult to the intelligence of gamers that they seem to think that we all just want to brainlessly watch flashing lights instead of think about what we're doing.
Yea, I know it's more than just SquareEnix who are moving from turn-based combat, but Final Fantasy was a series built on that combat style and even I can think of ways around what they're doing so it appeals to those of us who don't like or cannot keep up with such fast pacing.Defense said:Most companies are moving away from turn based gameplay, not just square enix.
