Final Fantasy Versus XIII Has Had "Many Difficulties"
Tetsuya Nomura is working hard on Final Fantasy Versus XIII, but there's still going to be a wait before it comes out.
Square Enix's Tetsuya Nomura has indicated that the next titles in the Final Fantasy XIII compilation aren't going to be released for a while. Through the Parasite Eve spinoff The 3rd Birthday's Twitter account, Nomura put just about every other one of his projects in front of them, and said that development on PlayStation 3 exclusive Final Fantasy Versus XIII [http://www.amazon.com/Final-Fantasy-Versus-XIII-Playstation-3/dp/B000ZK9QBY/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=videogames&qid=1281370234&sr=8-1] hasn't been progressing well.
"Versus has had many difficulties," he said. "Past methods of production have been completely inapplicable, but these are the difficulties of birth, so we are working hard. We have a lot to announce, but because we're going in order, I can't say too much yet."
Square Enix's policy is to promote games in order of their release, so he's keeping mum on Versus XIII until it's the game's turn. He did say that navigating Versus's world is "like the 2D [Final Fantasy] games in HD" though. He had previously said that airships [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/99284-Airship-Travel-Returns-in-Final-Fantasy-Versus-XIII] are making a triumphant return in the title.
Nomura also said that Versus XIII and the PSP's Agito XIII won't be shown at this month's Gamescom conference. For now, he's only going to talk about 3rd Birthday, Re:Coded [http://www.amazon.com/Kingdom-Hearts-Re-Coded-Nintendo-DS/dp/B002I08UPC/ref=sr_1_6?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1281370297&sr=1-6], and even titles that haven't been announced yet. He also tweeted: "There are a number of unannounced titles. These will come before Agito and Versus. Some have finished voice recording. Announcements will take place in Japan." Could this mean we'll hearing about them at September's Tokyo Game Show?
As much as I'd like to get on a Final Fantasy airship in Versus XIII soon, it doesn't look like that's going to happen. The titles seem to be buried deep in development secrecy. We'll just have to wait until Versus gets to the point where Square Enix has gotten through all of its "difficulties" so it can finally show off how the game will play.
