But the game was out, it was advertised as such. Your argument hold NO water.

You cannot say "here, if you give me $12 I will supply you with a game" then upon receiving the game it doesn't work and they say "you cannot have your money back and we will sort it out some time in the future".

That's illegal, plain and simple.

But like I said, it's not the fact that people are complaining that they can't play it that bothers me, it's the fact that people automatically used it as justification for piracy.

Actually the trailer said "get it today" but they broke that release date too. If it was a mistake then they should offer a refund, plain and simple.


If you care about piracy only then why are you using "entitled" like it is a slur when in fact you should be supporting these people against bad business practices. You cannot just let people take your money, refuse to give it back and have to wait on their terms even though they broke the law.

Square Enix obviously screwed up and should pay for it, and if that trailer counts as an official release date, then fine, they announced a release date. Even if it doesn't I'm not saying that Square Enix did nothing wrong.

But two wrongs don't make a right. Just because Square Enix goofed doesn't mean you're allowed to do something illegal against them. These people seem to think they are entitled to go outside the law to get what they want just because they were wronged. It doesn't work that way.

In case you missed that article, they weren't even given a refund when they asked.
There was no communication from the side of square.
This isn't about "piracy" as much as about shitty customer service.

Can't you find copies of this game online for less than 12 bucks? I don't know I never see the reasons for these re-releases when they don't actually add to the game. And cheats are not adding to the bloody game.

And the DRM thing is just hilarious, that's what you tack on to the game? What the DRM gonna do? ...Make pirates turn around and get the original PC release or emulate the PSOne version?

Should have thrown it on GoG.

Square is such a terrible company these days, you would think a refund would be the most painless thing to do but not for square.

I love FFVII as much as the next person, I have it on my ps3 as a download from the shop and I bought the PC version way back because I didn't have a playstation. But why would they release this again? that software was hard to get running when it was new, plagued with issues and using minimal effort to make it run on a PC. the only real awesome thing about the PC release was you could edit the holy hell out of your save games for some fun replay value and some other mods.

If Square wants to bring VII back, do it right like they released their other old games, put some effort into it. update the graphics, interface, music and all that stuff. they are a big company and don't have to be lazy like nintendo when it comes to releasing their old games.

Tho, despite being a HUGE fan of the series since the NES days, I always thought this game was really overrated. I never play it compared to replaying FFIV and VI quite often.

It amazes me how a company that's been around this long and makes this much money can fuck up re-releases - things that require very little work to begin with - of their flagship franchise so consistently, and so badly. The PS1 ports' load times, Tactics PSP's baffling (and deliberate) animation slowdown... Like, how?

Even if you didn't release a broken game and then offer no kind of explanation or compensation, which in itself is mind-boggling, why on earth would you use a version of the music files everyone hated? It's times like this that make me think Squaresoft became famous and prolific by accident, because they've been consistently stupid and clumsy throughout the years to go with it.

And people are seriously giving those objecting to their handling of this shit grief? Really? All the whining about piracy and self-entitlement, but when a company flat out steals from its consumers - because that's what selling a broken game and offering no refund is - you blame the people who got screwed? What the hell is wrong with some of you guys. This does absolutely nothing but vindicate people guilty of piracy, because piracy's biggest advocate is a lack of value to the consumer. The way this situation has been dealt with to this point does nothing but detract from the value of the product, and the company presenting it. I'm not saying piracy is right, but when things like this happen, it becomes a lot more attractive to people, and frankly, I can't blame them when their alternative is a product that doesn't even fucking work.

So... they accidently released the game before they intended, people bought it, can't play it and now they Square Enix aren't getting in touch... Bloody hell.

I don't really feel these people are entitled to the game, it still hasn't been released. But they are definitely entitled to their money back, I mean they were essentially sold a broken product.

And you'd think they'd at the very least update the shoddy translation and spruce the game up a bit. I mean they have enough money that I doubt this'd be a dent in their wallets, and I'm sure people would be more likely to buy it if there was something to differentiate it from the original and the re-release on PSN.

On a side note, what happened to the Final Fantasy X HD re-release that was announced a while ago?

For people other than Matthew94 - I'm going to completely spoil the ending here just in case you haven't played it:

I don't know if they've ever said so, but it's pretty abrupt and Sephiroth is obviously not the ultimate bad guy - he's just one of Jenova's avatars. But you get a short final dungeon, you fight him, then Aerith and the Lifestream save the planet, shot of Red XIII and cubs, ruined Midgar, the end. Compare it against any of the other mainlines. There's so much Jenova stuff that was left dangling (including a spaceship that could be relaunched for the final obligatory spaceship dungeon/final boss battle). Of course that gave them a lot more room to do spinoffs later.
