Though unfortunately it doesn't fix the real problems with the game. Like the battle system being both horrendously clunky and boring (for a GOOD example of what they were trying to do, play Xenoblade and Xenoblade X) or the story being a snooze.

Nice I guess for the people who liked this game. Personally, out of all the ones I've played (VII through XIII), XII was the more boring. Still, if they did this, and they did X and X-2, and VII is on the PS4 and is being remade, perhaps I can get VIII sometime please? Because that one is my favorite.

Happy for the fans of the game, sadly I'm not one of them but I'm still glad that it's fans has something to enjoy in the future. A part of me is tempted just to see how much better the class system is but then again if it turned out to be really good I would end up screaming "WTH didn't they do this in the first place?!!!", which I already did enough years ago just from reading about it. :p

My only concern is that for now it is announced for PS4 only.
Oh, for the love of... they'll drown Steam in FF13 sequels and Android ports of the single digit games, but when it comes to the only Final Fantasy I've never played and I'm kind of interested in, they pull this shit.

Fuck you, Square. With the wide end of a rake.
Like other people have said, hold off a while before you get mad. IX and X literally just both came out on PC (with relatively little fanfare), it seems highly unlikely that this won't end up getting a port.

OT: I think it's unlikely, but I hope it gets a Vita port just so that I can have III-XII all on my Vita (and I-II on my PSP, but unfortunately the only versions of those games available on the PSN are the PS1 ones).

Another game to add my potential JRPG-driven PS4!

Other than that, I can wait patiently for the potential trading cards to follow just like with X/X-2...

I gave up in the Barheim Passage. That was the first and last FF I'll ever play.

I'm glad that with a PC I don't have to worry about games not being playable after one or two generations. HD remastering is rather pointless, since the discs can be played at any resolution, depending on the hardware. Making games for one specific set of proprietary hardware is shortsighted and detrimental to the medium. The console model is dumb.
Eh...if this was you only FF I'd say go try another one. FFXII is kind of an outlier in comparison to the flow of FF titles. It's games coming from the Ivalice series rather than improving on older Final Fantasy main titles means it plays uniquely when compared to the rest. Though given how diverse FF is, it can be tough finding the 'best' FF game for a particualr JRPG interest.

OT: As this is my favorite Final Fantasy, I'm super happy for this. Now release VI HD damnit! :p

Excellent!

-sees it's using the International Zodiac Job System-

Fuck!

As different as that was, my biggest problem with the IZJS version was that the jobs are... atrociously balanced. There's like, 5 useful classes, with the rest all focused around useless equipment or techniques. I much prefered the original job system, since you could customize the hell out of your own crew and get things like a light-armoured Knight that used Time magic or a heavy armored gunner that could heal. Oh well, at least we get the pretty-pretty HD graphics.

What was wrong with the graphics on this one? I can understand wanting to spruce up the ones with pixels as big as hams or vertices sharp enough to casually shear flesh, but FF12 is fairly recent.

We aren't exactly looking at shocking differences here.

Still, I suppose there's no harm. Except for that Zodiac thing. I hope that's at least optional; I liked being able to level up my people the way I wanted, even if the idea of the incense system is somewhat ludicrous. Are Balthier and Fran really sitting around going, "Oh man, this sword is so cool! If only I had the proper paperwork so that I could use it!"

I kinda wish they could actually go back in and fix more than just the graphics. That game had a lot of unrealized potential and left me with the impression that there were some development issues (be it conflicting vision or budgetary/time constraints). That said, unlike 13, it seemed like this one could have been patched up by just adding onto the original content and changing a few minor things, rather than being poorly conceived at its core.

Oh my yes. I don't own a PS4, and have no intention of changing that, but when this comes to the PC, I'll play the shit out of it. XII is my favourite FF, and I've long been waiting for it to get the remaster treatment. \0/

I wonder if they'll do what they did with the Kingdom Hearts remasters, and re-do the music. From the boss theme that plays in the trailer, it seems so, but I can't quite tell.

Christ, I hate how the faces ended up looking.

To answer your question, though; XII doesn't look great on a HD Tv. The colours also look rather washed out, although I can't recall if this was an artistic choice, or the result of compression. (Either way, I hope they change this.)

One question. What is the difference between the international version and the regular version? And how much better/worst is it?
Since the International Zodiac Job System hasn't been released outside Japan (imports and unofficial translations aside), I can't really be a good judge on how much "better" or "worse" the system is, but the difference between the two games is pretty vast.
In the original game, your characters started out as blank slates. They had little in the way of skills and available equipment to use. You used the License Board to gain access to new skills and equipment, but the licenses only grant your characters the ability to use/equip whatever they grant (Excluding licenses that improve items and other character abilities.) Once you've acquired a License for something, you still need to find/purchase it before you can use it. In the case of Magick and Techniks, you need only buy them once and all characters that have the proper License to use those skills can immediately make use of them.

As a result, this can result in either completely useless characters, with gear that doesn't work as well (Which is especially problematic, because there are numerous weapon types, each with their own benefits and drawbacks) or inability to use certain skills, or an utterly homogeneous party. If you spent the hundreds of hours required to, you could completely unlock the entirety of the License Board for all characters. This easily creates the scenario where all three of your party members could do anything you need them to. Need a buff? Easy, have each party member cast a different buff, the entire party will be fully buffed in no time. Enemy weak to a particular element? Great! Have each member cast the strongest spell you have of that element. Taken damage? Eh, just have them all cast Cura.

In the International Zodiac Job System there are now 12 License Boards, each corresponding to a different sign of the zodiac, and a different job. When a new character joins the party, you can assign them one of these twelve jobs, each job has their own specific License Board, this job is permanent and cannot be changed. You can even choose to not assign any jobs to anyone, but you won't learn any new abilities by doing so. Multiple characters can have the same job, but it's not recommended, as certain Esper Licenses are required to connect with Licenses that are separated from the main board. This means each character in your party will have a certain specialization, at the same time, there's now a priority in keeping certain members alive, and you'll need to worry about party composition.
They also added in a few other changes to the way the game plays.
Espers (This game's version of Aeons/Summons) are now controllable by the player. Before, they'd act under a strict and unchangeable set of directions. Guests (People who join your party temporarily) are also controllable.
New Gambits, changes to stat growths of each character, item changes, magic/equipment changes, and the removal of the 9,999 damage limit, among others.

I might actually pick this one up.

I played it for a while, but I can't say I particularly liked it. It had potential, but I really didn't care for the Licenses and the battle system. I'd read that the International version made some tweaks to both systems, but was unavailable outside of Japan.

I didn't irrationally hate the characters in the game like I did in X and XIII (Vaan at least had the good sense to keep his mouth shut), so I might give it another shot.

Hopefully that turbo mode will work out something like FFIX's update because I wanted to play XII. I got it and started to play it, but the gameplay absolutely killed it, which is a shame because I generally like the Ivalice stuff (even if the original Tactics was best Ivalice >.>)

There most likely were

The game was in constant development for 5-6 years and lost its original director, Yasumi Matsuno, one year before the game's release due to illness. Its been noted that Matsuno wasn't pleased with how the project was coming along, and at one point didn't come into work for one month after some members of the development team left. People joke about how the development of FFXII broke Matsuno's mind, though I don't know if the stress of the job was directly responsible for his illness or just a coincidence.

Also, Basch was originally suppose to be main character, but the execs wanted to appeal to the teenager demograph, and so the role of the MC went to Vaan. I get the feeling that this wasn't made in the early stages of development since Vaan kinda becomes irrelevant to the plot after about 1/4 through the game.

Was so excited when I saw this, they are also bringing over Dragon Quest Builders to PS4 later this year (Minecraft meets Dragon Quest *cue girly squeal*)

Final Fantasy XII is by far my favorite Final Fantasy game and am so happy to see it get a remaster, I don't have a PS4 but I strongly believe they will port this over to PC a short time later as they have been doing with their other Final Fantasy titles, which are selling very well on Steam.

I bet the PC version will be a poorly done port of the PS4 version.
Square Enix hit a few bumps in the road with ports but lately have been doing a lot better, especially with games released on PS4.
