XI failed horribly, you would think that they would of taken that to heart when making another one. Seriously, they could of put all the development time and money into making another single-player Final Fantasy, or even a Final Fantasy game with co-op [rather than a straight forward MMO].

Im starting to think Critical Thinking is a dead skill.
Wrong and untrue. XI was received far better than XIV, and still has at least 500k subs. They are still getting patches and expansions.

I wasn't aware they had released another FF MMO. Shame to see Final Fantasy 4 Billionth isn't making as much money as they wanted. I thought the previous FF MMO did poorly. Why are they doing it again?

The game won't fail purely because of the Final Fantasy fanboys that will love anything FF even if it's a big fat turd. That being said, hopefully they learn from their mistakes and don't pull off this shit again. Eh, who am I kidding.

I wonder where people get the idea that XI bombed.
Probably because they compare it to other P2P MMOs. FFXI doesn't have near as many subs as WoW, Aion, or Guild Wars. Doesn't mean it failed really, but it does kind of pale in comparison.

Well I think the "Final Fantasy" name lost a lot of weight with XIII to be honest, despite it's sales (before people knew for sure whatit was a like) I think a lot of people who might have been Final Fantasy MMORPGers became a lot pickier, and also decided to take a wait and see attitude when it came to the new outlook of Square-Enix.

On top of that, above and beyond the bugs I think there is an issue with other MMORPG developments. I mean we have "Cataclysm" coming out right around the corner, and while DC Universe Online has apparently been pushed up by many annoucements (six months in fact) that news hasn't seemed to sink in everywhere and a lot of people are still eagerly awaiting that one like it's coming out in a couple of weeks. Then you have to consider that early next year we're going to be seeing "Old Republic Online" which is probably one of the most hotly anticipated MMOs of all time, and the one a lot of people think might actually steal some of Blizzard's thunder (though let's be honest, even if it does, Blizzard is still going to be filling up another Scrooge Mcduck type Money Bin from Cataclysm).

I think the game kind of hit a perfect storm of a bad release time due to other games, a flagging brand name, and releasing a game in a typically crappy condition to be "fixed later, once we are making money" which works for other MMOs, especially highly antiipated ones, but given the other factors this game didn't have the anticipation it's brand name would normally garner due to FF XIII, and a ton of quality competition. I mean even if the game itself seems to be something of a dark horse contender so far, DC Universe Online, has the name and backing of one of the biggest comics companies/franchises of all time. On the best of days I don't think "Final Fantasy" ever had that much oomph, even when it hadn't been so badly compromised due to a disappointing release and even more disappointing attitudes on the part of it's creators.

Too little too late. I've already canceled my account and uninstalled the game. There's no way 30 extra days will be enough time to fix all the problems this game has. It wasn't even close to being ready for launch.

It is a good gesture, I made the mistake of getting the collectors edition which was a pretty big rip off. An extra month of play is nice, too bad it doesn't make the game any more playable. Things are improving yes, but not the areas that pc mmo gamers have come to exspect in todays game. It's shocking that the game is almost a throw back to 11.

At least Guild Wars 2 looks much better by comparison to this game.

Comparing Guild Wars 2 to this shiny turd is an insult to Guild Wars 2, since the ArenaNet team are doing all they can to create something innovative for the MMO genre [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QnqJzwYJ2xk] and listening to user testers & fan feedback [http://www.arena.net/blog/fans-design-gw2-events-at-our-pax-panel] in order to improve the game they have (even before the beta).

And all those saying that FFXIV game will end like APB may be wrong, since Squeenix have saved a lot of money on the project's development: by not requiring many voice actors (walls of text are more than enough to immerse the player), by making money of this glorified beta for the console release and for outsourcing a deal of the development to China.

Final Fantasy has pissed away any brand loyalty they had after the bland FF12, and downright player despising FF13 (I swear I want to crotch punch whoever thought running down hallways and combat I couldn't control, just make suggestions about, were good game design ideas). Throw in games that cameo old (better) Final Fantasy characters (like Kingdom Hearts games), and a series of remakes and side stories based on past glories and the average player has come to realize that Final Fantasy's glory days are behind it, and that SE is as well aware of this fact as anyone.

So the idea of slapping the FF name on a half finished MMORPG in the same year as Blizzard launches the next phase of their world domination plan just seems like they're not even trying.

30 Extra days or not this game is Dead on Arrival.

Wow sad to hear, but i still love Square Enix games they seem to always produce good quality stuff. I never played FFXI for that simple fact that it was an MMO...i mean i want a story to end eventually sheesh....

And no i wouldnt call myself a fanboy, i dont even own a Square Enix game anymore (all my little bros got my PS2's and PS1's)

Anyone playing, and enjoying Final Fantasy XIV, will also get a free month.

We do exist, you know, however fashionable it may be to hate on the game. Hating FFXIV isn't like some magical point the world can unify around. Yeah, there are problems, but most of the stuff people are whining about seems more down to preference than issue. Thus far the only thing's actually bothered me is the lack of chat bubbles.

I severely doubt an extra month of playtime is going to improve this game's reputation. Fans hate it, critics hate it, the game is damaged beyond repair. Messing up on a game's launch is a cause for concern. I thought FFXII and XIII couldn't be surpassed in bad design, but this is stupidity of a whole other level. Goes to show that the only sector of the Square side of SE that has talent is Matsuno's team and I can't see them touching FF again.

Squareenix basically said we made a crappy game, let's give our consumers an extra month of playing our game!
>_>

Er huh?

But I"m a bit biased, I also think FFXI should have never existed...

None of the main Final Fantasys should have been MMORPGs... Maybe some kind of spin off game like Final Fantasy online...

You know i heard that one of the devs for ff 14 thought it would be a wow killer. I believe him if the wow devs heard that I'm sure they would all die laughing.
