With the credits, ahur hur hurr.

Eh, exposition to wrap up the loose ends, climactic battle, and closure. Don't seem to get too much of the last nowadays.

With a bad ass fight with both sides taking massive casualties and one or more main characters dieing.

Something challenging, but not so impossible that I have to restart over and over. I want to feel like I've accomplished something, not beaten the game.

I would like a game with a Brazil ending. Anyone know of one?
37% of soccer world cup endings?

OT:Games with a final boss that makes fairly no sense to the game.

You know, I would say a big boss fight... but I get tired of huge boss fights. I mean, pretty much every game ever ends with a boss that's for some reason stronger than everyone else. Dead Space, Resident Evil 4/5, inFamous, Uncharted 2, Crysis, Prototype... if you're going to have an end boss, do it like Metal Gear Solid 3. That was a near perfect ending that had me speechless... but I can't really explain it without spoilers and you really don't want it spoiled for you.

Or end it like Gears of War 2 which was just a nice relaxing explosion-fest. It was truly a nice reward for beating the game.

Or you could end it like Fallout 3 and just end it without warning.

I like surprise endings. Fallout 3 is a good one, did not see that one coming. Well I did when I walked in, but I still thought I would get out somehow. I don't mind boss battles, but most games have a climatic boss battle at the end that isn't all that challanging, so it's sort of old. I don't mind not really having a big bad boss to fight. Once again, Fallout 3 is a good example.

A good challenging boss battle, followed up by a ending that makes things feel worthwhile.

Many games seem to forget to give you a good ending cutscene. The biggest offender for me was KOTOR 2, in which after you beat the final boss, it just cuts to black and game over. No post credit cutscene, nothing. I hate that.

Not if the game has no replay value, by that I mean games that don't have any replayable missions, quests, or levels.

Example, sandbox games like Oblivion, Fallout 3, Prototype, etc. have tons of other things you can do besides complete the main game.

In those type of games yes I enjoy a spectacular ending.

This. I loved the ending for Halo: Combat Evolved and Halo 3 with the whole "RUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUN!!!" aspect. And I enjoyed the ending in Fallout 3 Broken Steel, when you sneak in to the base through the metro and assault the Mobile Platform and it all ends as you watch the missiles rain down on it. I just wish it started as you were escaping so it would include the whole run or die aspect that makes things very exciting for me. Like right after you get out of the satellite dish your character would look up and see that little twinkle and all the missiles rain down and you have to run while there's all those explosions and enclave soldiers getting blown up. Boss battles are really fun too as long as it is challenging and rewarding so you feel like you really achieved your goal even through impossible means.

EDIT: In summary, I want it to be exciting and make me feel like I accomplished something.

Tell me about it, most games just end with it wide open for a sequel, I hate when that happens.

I like my videogames to end with a satisfying finale. Most games however seem to have this mentality lately though that it feels like the lead-up to the end challenge/ boss is always about 10 times harder than the last hurdle. So I always appreciate it when the final boss feels like a triumphant win and not just a moderate obstacle - make me feel like the last 12-20 hours I've played this game was building up to something awesome.

One caveat though - the end challenge/ boss has to be a FAIR challenge, and not some horrible hair-ripping brick wall of cheap-ass bullcrap.
I'm looking at you, Seth.
