I'm really not seeing many articles reviewing the entire gen. 7. Lots of GOTY out there and they're a blast (worst of next week! I love this stuff!) but now, Gen 8 is current gen. Gen 7 is now ready for a retrospective. I finally found one. Finally.

I hope y'all can link some others or add your own comments.

My own comments:

Batman Arkham City: Best of Gen
Worst/Most disappointing: Metroid for Wii but the Wii in general. It sits, unused gathering dust.
Best Console: PS3. A bluray that I put a 500 Gig drive into? HDMI ready? Free online? Use it for Netflix too? This thing will be getting a lot of use, even well into Gen 8.
Most Aggrevating moment: I'm playing Dragon Age origins. I'm immersed in the story. Loving it. Then my dwarven fighter is asked by an NPC if I'd like to go on an adventure for a small fee for DLC. Awesome.
Observations:
Steam is now a thing. A big thing.
Wireless controllers are now the norm. And they are better than the Wavebird.
I wasted so much money on PS Move equipment. It has all been taken back to Gamestop. Even my kids won't touch it.

I look forward to your thoughts.

Christ, Ryan O'Donnel lost a fuckton of weight! Dear Lord!

Anyway, what stood out most to me this gen was the transistion of triple-B retail games to triple-A downloadable indie games. In the first couple of years of generation 7 I had wondered if the online platform of consoles could be used to distribute smaller games and less popular genres, and it seems that has come to fruition. With generation 8 only bringing more. So bravo to that.

Also, control schemes have gotten so much better last gen, and people hardly seem to notice. To me it's probably the best advancement gen7 brought.

As for the bad... The bigger it gets, more intimacy it looses. But that's the price you pay, I guess.
