http://www.dailytelegraph.com.au/news/opinion/game-over-for-children/story-e6frezz0-1225965671392

Sorry I don't know hwo to link. For those of you who cna't be bothered I shall summarize. Basically Aus is finally catching up with the rest of the world and getting an r18 rating for games. well duh I here you saying we got that from the title. fair enough but I'm just wonderring how many people are excited, if prematurely, about this news. I want to heart all your thoughts and opinions on this matter.

To get the ball rolling going to the latter area of the article

"Mr O'Connor said he was not sure why it had taken so long for the Government to act on concerns that Australia did not have R18+ rated games."

ITS PARANOIA TIME(link at the commas) - Mr O'conner is the current Home Affairs Minister, The Current Government is a labor government, Michael atkinson is a Labor minister, Michael Atkinson is well known for his hardline(read fanatical) anti r18 rating stand openly declaring that he would veto any vote to bring it in.

Conclusion: Is Mr O'conner really so Ignorant on the subject matter that he truly does not know where the hindrance to this motion has until know come from or is he just ignoring this embarrassing aspect of his parties past?

My second point regarding this topic is back at the earlier half of the article but I thought the first bit refreshed the whole atkinson thing in our minds

Quote: "Home Affairs Minister Brendan O'Connor will take the Government's new position to a meeting of state and territory attorneys-general this week to seek their approval in changing the games classification system."

NO NO NO NO Don't put it back in their hands please it'll never pass although that said now atkinson's gone we may get lucky

either that or this Is the government trying to take action on a controversial subject and then handing it off to someone else to take the blame if it fails

in regards to point one you made, he was most likely being rhetorical

as to point two, which in turn relates to point one, is that changes to the classification system requires the unnamimous agreement of the state and territory attorneys general, otherwise nothing will happen at all regardless of whether new legislation on the issue is passed or not.

so it kinda HAS to be in their hands

I doubt he was being rhetorical.

If it was Labor that made the change, even though Labor was the reason the change couldn't be made, then O'Connor is feigning ignorance so that people don't remember "wait a second, even though you guys are doing it now, YOUR THE REASON THAT IT COULDN'T HAPPEN EARLIER!"

Like that B**** in school who would degrade any idea made by another girl, but then suddenly the one day that girl isn't around the B in question will bring forward the idea herself to try and steal credit for the idea.
(This happens everywhere, if you see someone trying to take credit for someone elses idea call them on their shit)

Or maybe this was all one plant b degrades other girls Idea while c blocks it then when b comes to power c moves so b can pass the vote winning bill uninterrupted, oh wait I've lost you're metaphor there cause schoolgirls don't post bills but you get my meaning(and yes I am aware b didn't stand for second I just choose not to draw attention to its true meaning, DAMN)

Isn't it just 'exciting' *cough* thinking about how many issues are blocked in government just because some douchewheel wants to take the credit for it themselves?

Edit: Rhombus, I'm from Australia btw if you were including me in that :p If not it's kool.

Yeah, we're a bit late onto the bandwagon ain't we?
Also, Labor tend to fuck up whenever they get into power, and the then OTHER side (Liberals) get into power, fix it all up while copping shit about the state of everything, then they lose, Labor get in and well, you figure it out.
They DID block it the first time, but that was South-Australian AG Atkinson, and he's gone now.
