Yay! Thanks to some very helpful people doing some research on another forum (not specifically for me), I have finally managed to get a way to record my games and post them on youtube!!!

The only problem that I have is that it does not recrd in-game audio...only microphone speak.

Does anyone know a good sound recorder, so that I can put the sound and the video together in windows movie maker?

Thanks loads.

Also the program is called Gamecam. Completely free unlesss you don't want the watermark.

Or there is Hypercam...it does record in-game audio, but runs slower so to record effectively your game will have to be at a looooow resolution.

Is that one free? 'Cause I just realised-All i really wanna do is record some simple Gmod tutorials/show off some of my creations. What I really need is a microphone recording program...Don't say gamecam because I also want in-game audio.

My laptop's camera application can't record sound on it's own...and I don't know how good the microsoft sound recorder is. Any tips?

My Idea is:
I use Hypercam to record the game footage and in-game audio (Don't care about the resolution to be honest), and then I record my voice with another aplication while doing so...then combine the audio file and the video file into one file using a movie maker, and voila!

Lol I commented on your topic...I don't know how to but I want one myself.

I also made a joke about the name of your thread.

Woh. See I think at this rate I will just get fraps. It is supposed to be the best...and only $20, so £10 for me

Question are you doing PC game recording, emulator game recording or Console game recording?

It's also an editing software as well. Not too sure if fraps can do that (never heard of Fraps by the way)

I got fraps and its good enough, but I really wouldn't bother buying software just to do a few little tuts and shenanigans. I think Camstudio could record from speakers, but I think that would be pretty out of the way.

PC gaming
If you are playing games like L4D or other games that would take up the entire monitor and want to record the audio and video your best bet is to use programs that record the game itself like Fraps.

www.fraps.com

The program costs about $37 and enables you to record gameplay, take screenshots of those PC games. I would warn you that the quality you record in will create huge video files in the gigabyte range. So if you have a small hard drive consider upgrading or get a good external hard drive to store all the recording after you have done the recording and editing.

A second option if you don't like Fraps is another program which is Wegame.
www.wegame.com

However the list is limited to the games that can be recorded but it is ever expanding and the site also enables users to upload videos through their site expanding the audience you are trying to reach.

Programs like Gamecam and such are nice but they are meant for desktop recordings not full on PC games.

Also congratulations, you made me post my 2000th post.
Thanks for the advice, and congratulations on your 200th! I recently passed 500, and became an infamous scribble. I am lovin the glory!

I am currently trying out camstudio...works fine and records both ingame and mic audio, at a small file size.

Goody goody. Reviews, walkthroughs, demontrations here I come at last!

Unregistered HyperCam 2 is a great way to get retsupurae'd.
What's that last word?

From Something Awful users Slowbeef and Diabeetus. Makes fun of idiots who can't do Let's Play properly and serves as an essential guide to not totally fucking up.

Dang it...the camstudio application couldn't record properly. It said it was some kind of program error.

So that's camstudio, hypercam 2, gamecam and fraps tested (free version of fraps obviously).

To be honest so far all have had at least one problem that I simply couldn't put up with.

I think i will give up...for now at least.
