Okay so, I come from a really poor family and I'm currently 21. My parents are difficult people to talk to with most of the time and when I try and suggest they do anything, they go ballistic and start yelling.

Well here in the grand state of Florida in order to be financially independent you have to be 24 years old or married. This is where the problem comes in.

You see I'm currently unemployed, and I've tried and failed to get a job, no one wants a 21 year old that has no experience. So there is no money for College, which I'm currently attending only two classes at a time.

My parents can't afford to put me through school full time, and they F'd up their taxes some time ago so I can't apply for Financial Aid. By 21 most people my age are in Uni, not their 2 year degree in community college. At this rate I'll be 23 at least by the time I finish my AA degree. My life is passing me by as my parents basically road blocked my life.

So I'm wondering, is there any loophole where I can get Aid? I can't imagine my life going on the way it is, I feel like I'm moving in slow motion while everyone is going full speed ahead in life.

Not sure if the same applies for college, but usually here, most higher education establishments have some kind of financial advisor. If you have a tutor, you may be able to get some help from them - they may know the right people to talk to and help you.

Sorry I can't help much - UK-based, so not sure what the deal is in Florida.

Speak with Advisors or a Student Council, I'm sure some of them would be more qualified to direct you.

Tried already, they basically said go away until your parents do their taxes. So still screwed.

Contend that since when should assistance which they are paid to give be withheld because of the financial standing of your parents
Consider emigrating Play video games Hmmmm..
Being 21, aren't you eligible for Financial Assistance separate from your parents, or is the legal definition of Adult a higher age than that where you are?

I was in a similar situation, but my solution was...rather drastic.

Military enlistment.

If you are in truly dire straights, I suggest the Air Force. I have not been through their basic training, but I hear it is the easiest of the four branches.

=| I don't wanna go down that path, not yet anyways, I've considered it before but it seems extreme for a guy like me. I guess that makes me a coward, and moots my point of not knowing what to do.

The AF has a glut of people who thought the exact same thing and now they've upped the standards. Not saying you need to be super high speed or anything, but you need to at least know how to tie your boots now.

No, you are not a coward. You are just not a follower. Humans can be just as deadly without following orders.

How about package delivery? If you don't mind physical labor, there should be occasional openings. Or how about the Peace Corps? I believe they have programs that pay for your room and board, as well as provide you with life experience.

At least the new boots don't need to be polished...but it was always the laces that slowed me down in boot. The laces were so long, you had to wrap them around twice until you could tie them.

24 is the legal separation age.
oO. In the UK, you can move out at 18, and become fully independent.
I moved out when I was 24, but I would've prolly moved out earlier if I wasn't arranging to get married at the time, lol.

Assuming you can't get aid, is it possible for you to get across to your parents how much an education means to you, and if feasible... offer to help them with their taxes?

Once I wrote something down to explain something to my parents - could a similar trick help you? Yes, it is less personal, but with the right person, it can be easier to get a long point across.
If your parents have a close friend, is it possible to use them as a proxy? I used to ask my brother to explain things to my parents from time to time, as he was always much better at "people skills" ^^.

Oh god... just had first drill of the semester yesterday and you could instantly spot the brand new cadets. Laces were longer than Longcat and untucked. TLs had fun chasing the noobs down and correcting their uniform.

I have my laces threaded through the little loopy thing on the back so they always stay in position. Not having to polish my lovely tan boots is a plus to.

We're talking about a mother that walked out and left me at walmart because I asked whether or not I could go to school again next term. (I'd already missed 2 terms) and it was my BIRTHDAY.
if you talk to them about anything they either blow up at you, or blame it on the other parent.

"Only she knows how to do taxes, I'm busy working all the time, I wish I could send you to school full time yadayada"
"The tax guy won't talk to anyone but him, I'm busy working 3 part time jobs, yadayada"

I've offered to do the taxes for them, they tell me either I don't know what I'm doing or resort to blaming it on someone else.

They both were married really young, and I don't think they ever grew up, its their way or the highway.
I'm going to try again tonight to talk to them about doing their Taxes, should be a really horrible night.

Whoops sorry. TL would just be a Team Leader, who was ordered to make sure everybody's uniform and LBE (Load Bearing Equipment) was to perfect standards.

Have some more banter while you're at it:

Oh...is Team Leader the same as Fire Team Leader or Squad Leader? I guess it would depend on the rank. We have LBVs, too (Load Bearing Vests), so-

Two Team Leaders per Squad (11-12 people) with one Squad Leader.

I take it you were neither in the primary nor good to go?

Five or six in a team? Oh...is that a wing?

I'm used to 3-4 Marines in a fire team, 3 fire teams in a squad, 3 squads in a rifle platoon (unless you're in a weapons platoon, then 4 squads).

Primary? And I was never "good to go".
