Finding an Internship

Hi guys I'm currently studying Software Engineering at university and between our 3rd and 4th years of study we have to find a 12 month internship in order to gain industrial experience.

I was wondering if any of you guys had any ideas for where I could apply to. Obviously I have thought about the big corps such as Google, Facebook, Twitter, Apple etc.

I currently live in the UK but I'd be happy to work anywhere English speaking.

Any advice would be much appreciated, cheers!

Detica is a cyber security company I worked two summer internships for. They do a lot of software and coding projects ? in my second internship there, I worked on a hash algorithm-based virus scanner, and a couple of my colleagues worked in Treidan, which is a division that focusses on intelligent pattern-finding in databases. The company even worked on analysing the Flame virus, so they've got a fair bit of pedigree in software.

I know they definitely have a formal summer internship programme in place, but I don't know if they do 12 month internships. It's probably worth a shot, though?they'd definitely be interested to hear from a software engineer in their penultimate year! They have offices in London and Gloucester, and their headquarters are in Guildford, for reference. The only thing is, they are heavily tied to the Government and Ministry of Defence, so you may find it difficult to get the security clearance necessary to work there if you're not a British national.
