So you see a girl or a boy from a western cartoon or an anime. You then think "Hmm, he/she is pretty cute/hot/attractive/whatever. Would you say this is normal? Or do you think this qualifies as a weird fetish or something?

I realize that like any attraction being attracted to animated characters can be taken to weird levels (Rule 34 is evidence of that) but I'm not really asking if you think that kind of stuff is weird I'm just asking if you think finding an animated character attractive is something most people do or if it's just some weird exclusive trait that only the weirdest of geeks posses.

Anyway I'm getting kind of redundant now so I'll just sit in the corner and wait.

EDIT: I just now noticed that there's a fetish thread floating around right now. I swear this has nothing to do with it...not intentionally anyway...

Didn't you make this thread 2 months back? I swear it's almost the same blasted topic...

OT- Weird? Depends on the person you're talking to. Fetish? Most definitely. Commonly found? I, have no fucking idea. It's a fetish that anyone could have that's not limited to geeks and/or nerds.

Relax citizen this video shall explain any and all questions you may have in regards to humans having an attraction towards animated characters

EDIT: In case you're lazy here's a quote that sums it up.
"It's normal, It's totally normal to relate to and emotionally engage yourself with fictional character to a degree, because on some level we do see them as people, if we didn't fiction wouldn't even exist it would just be a bunch arbitrary crap that meant nothing to us become on some level on some angle, we do see them as people."

Cartoons characters are just simplified versions of real people. When you draw them you are just taking the characteristics of a real person and simplifying them, so no it is not weird. Hell Betty Boop and Jessica Rabbit are both sex symbols in their own right.

Not really. Let me put it this way; animated characters can be anything. Not only can they be more than what a human can (Furries and whatever else), but they can also be made 'perfect' (At least in the eye of the artist). They can also be given the exact personality you're looking for, because the creator is the one...well...creating them. You don't have to search your whole life for a red-haired 5'11" tsundere with a six pack or B-cup breasts to fulfill whatever fantasy you have when you could just spend a day and a half creating them; on top of them never leaving or cheating on you (Unless you're into that sort of thing).

Fictional, sure, but more perfect than a real person could ever be. Especially if you're someone who would never be considered attractive or desirable to 'real' people, whether because of various illnesses or whatever else.

It's also why I say that virtual reality will be the downfall of humanity. Why suffer through this horrific, flawed life when you can live the life you always wanted, down to the smallest exact detail?

Keep in mind, modern man began painting on cave walls 40,000 years ago. The Camera was invented in like 1826. So thats 41,826 years of wanking it to drawings and paintings.

So, not weird at all. If anything, it's more traditional and therefore more classy.

I like the way you think.

OT: No, I don't think it is weird.

I don't see how finding drawings of something we find to be attractive to be any weirder than the real thing.

If a cartoon can be funny, endearing, and sad, I don't see why it can't also be attractive.

I think a lot of people who find it weird confuse 'being attracted to' with 'being in love with'.

As long as they're human and somewhat realistically drawn i don't think there's anything particulary weird about it. Kinda unusual, maybe.

... Cloppers can still go and jump of a cliff, though.

Nothing wrong with it. I suppose it might be an issue if you begin to prefer the fake, but whatever, if that's what floats your boat.

Are you talking the actual image of an animated character, because I've known people that makes Bugs Bunny look complex and sophisticated personality-wise..

The body cannot differentiate between fiction and reality, it's why you get adrenaline from playing action games or can feel genuine fear upon a seeing scary film, and it is also why you can be attracted to fictional characters. Our bodies react to things on an instinctive level, so if we see a character that is designed to look like an attractive member of our preferred sex, then we will find it attractive.

Seeing as you specified animated (as opposed to fictional) characters, I am assuming you are referring to a sexual attraction rather than an attraction to personality, that is a different discussion entirely.

I've found myself attracted to characters in written fiction, so an animated character wouldn't be a huge stretch.

It's only weird when these attractions supersede real world relationships, which you hear about happening occasionally with people marrying virtual girlfriends or falling in love with MMO avatars.

Yeah, this guy said it.

On the other hand, people falling over themselves to tell the world which cartoon characters they masturbate to can follow the cloppers right off that fucking cliff.

Some people 'clop' to My Little Pony, I can assure you that folks finding animated humans attractive is closer to normal than it is closer to 'cloppers'.
