Whatever, just wash your hands.
While my computer was in the shop for the last week I was reading and came on a really fantastic paragraph that I think really shows the wisdom of ages, its from the book Unseen Academicals by Terry Pratchett, dont worry, no spoilers or anything

"The Patrician took a sip of his beer. 'I have told this to a few people, gentlemen, and I suspect never will again, but one day when I was a young boy on holiday in Uberwald I was walking along the bank of a stream when I saw a mother otter with her cubs. A very endearing sight, Im sure you will agree, and as I watched, the mother otter dived into the water and came up with a plump salmon, which she subdued and dragged on to a half-submerged log. As she ate it, while of course it was still alive, the body split and I remember to this day the sweet pinkness of its roes as they spilled out, much to the delight of the baby otters who scrambled over themselves to feed on the delicacy. One of natures wonders, gentlemen: mother and child dining on mother and child. And that's when I first learned about evil. It is built into the very nature of the universe. Every world spins in pain. (I almost hesitate to add the ending since I think it doesn't quite match up with the rest of the quote but here it is) If there is some kind of supreme being, I told myself, it is up to all of us to become this moral superior"

so there it is, so what other grains of wisdom has the escapist encountered out there in book, web, tv, movies, or someone yelling out during a night of drinking?

"Losers always whine about their best. Winners go home and fuck the prom queen."

or even better yet I can have you watch the quote

Best advise I have ever had, ok well some of the best, I had a scout leader tell me "It doesn't matter were you get your appetite as long as you eat at home". Try to guess what he meant.

"All universal statements are bad. except this one"
Heard that in my logic and critical thinking class. And as i thought more on it, i realized its usually true, when people make large, deep, definitive statements, bad things happen.

"Whatever you're gonna do, do it fast!"

I can imagine this will be such a cliche, but I remember this quote from Aliens (1986) and its so obvious but at the end of the day everyone was slower than the Xenomorph.

Perhaps old and musty, but these words have guided me since my brother taught me to sing them:

"Sometimes your cards ain't worth a dime, if you don't lay them down." -- Grateful Dead

I've always dragged the main title and the chorus line of a Manic Street Preachers song just because I think that people often forget this very basic fact:

"If you tolerate this, then your children will be next".

I think that people should remember this and allow it to over-ride their obedience and their conformity.

I read this just this morning. This is from Diaspora by Greg Egan, describing the creation of a new individual:

"Once a psychoblast [a step in the creation process] became self-aware, it was granted citizenship, and intervention without consent became impossible."

That seems an excellent way to determine when life begins. Of course we'd then fight about how to determine self-awareness.
