There needs to be an entire games worth of dlc content to warrant that price.
It's optional, no one is pointing a gun at you to buy it.
Pack 1 and 2 are grinding maps for the lazies
Pack 3 is a New Class pack, for getting OP classes that you don't need to get to finish the game
Pack 4, is probably the worth one to buy, as it has some backstory with characters, around 1500 Yen for the Bundle ($13ish)
Pack 5 is not revealed yet.

Total Cost for Awakening's DLC = $50 around $6 each
Total Cost for Fates DLC, not including the main campaign = $25.98 for 2 packs ($65 for all DLC, assuming you bought 1 copy and all the DLCs)

I don't know why only Nintendo threads gets this kind of reaction
I mean Capcom is announcing DLCs for Marvel vs Capcom Infinite, they're doing the same thing, but there are no news about it in the escapist, at least not as sensational as this one.

Every game that does DLC like this gets shit on. This is not people picking on the "beloved" Nintendo. Dead or Alive 5 and Evolve got shit on heavy for their massive amounts of DLC.

Let's not act like Nintendo is the only company that gets shit on this site for bad business practices.

And before anyone tells me it's optional, I remember once upon a happier time where you just punched in a cheat code to get extra experience points.
Fire Emblems Gaiden never had cheat codes/secrets to unlock maps or contents (Well, a cheat code to unlock the sound test, which is not a DLC so meh). Like I said, in my previous post, nothing from the original game was removed/turned to DLC. All of these DLCS are new optional content, that doesn't affect the main story.

So you're just getting triggered without any reason just at seeing a game with DLCs ignoring if its optional or not.
To your eyes DLC is just "instant greed", even when no on is forcing you to buy the DLC.
Don't patronize me. After all the stuff they've pulled, a hard mode DLC, figuring out what a villain's deal is DLC, the in-pour of DLC in the last two Fire Emblem games, Nintendo has burned its good will with me on the DLC front. I like GOOD DLC that feels like it isn't pestering me before I've even gotten a chance to play the game and want to charge nearly the full retail price all over again. This ain't Artorias of the Abyss.

If you're happy with it, fine, have the courtesy to not jump on the back of every single person in the thread who isn't happy that Nintendo is trying to suck their wallets dry, and they will try, you can talk about how all this DLC was optional, but they wouldn't be announcing this pass long before the game was released if they didn't want to pressure people into buying it.

Also I remember plenty of remakes of old games that included new content without charging ludicrous prices for it. The GBA Final Fantasy games come to mind.
The game literally comes out this month in just a couple of days. This isn't 'way before its release'

There's a word for that, it's called an "Expansion Pack" that existed back in the days of yore.

And I will not be buying that either. I find the whole season pass thing awful,I have never bought one and never will. Supporting games that make you pay for them twice by paying for them just encourages the practice. That goes for Nintendo or anyone else.

You're right, I made a mistake, but my point still stands that they're asking me to pay nearly the entire price of the game all over again before I even have a chance to experience it. And my patience with DLC in Fire Emblem has long since been worn out.

Also, those games you mentioned? That's it. They're games in their own right. Not just cheap cash grabs.

My apologies, those games weren't a counter to your point. Dude just said expansions didn't cost money. They did

I'm pretty sure I never said that but no sleep can do strange things.

Giving them the benefit of the doubt...

This season pass price is ACCEPTABLE if and only if the content within is equivalent to a proper EXPANSION PACK to a video game. This needs to be your Frozen Throne Warcraft 3 expansion or your Reaper of Souls level expansion.

Anything less is a complete rip-off. I'm not familiar with what the pass contains and even if I did I wouldn't know what it means because I've never played a Fire Emblem game for reference.

Well this is quite sad to see.

Optional little side-grind missions and whatever I don't mind missing, because I've always disliked 'detour' quests in games anyway. But locking class advancements and character stories behind a paywall? Ones that are visibly already completed and ready to ship? That's a little sour to me.

One could argue that since the advanced classes weren't in the original game, they shouldn't be here either. That would be fair. I'd contest that if they actually wanted to be faithful to the original however, they shouldn't be making this DLC in the first place.

Locking extra character story away is fairly scummy in my eyes. Awakening and Fates already had a significant lack of character development and story, and it seems that when Nintendo heard that fans wanted it back, all they heard was the potential clinking of money.

I feel quite bad for Fire Emblem. I used to happily preorder these games. But after they split Fates into three fully-priced games and then threw DLC on top, and very clearly didn't care about the negative feedback for doing so, I'm happy to say that this game isn't going to be purchased by me.

Meh, this is the way it is these days.
Just wait for sales.

Pfff. Earth Defense Force 4 has dlc over three times the price of the game.

I think some farming and railroad sims have the same deal.
Is this console EDF4? Because the price of all dlc on the pc version costs about the same as the base game and most of it is just skins.

Sims are a bit different.
You aren't supposed to buy all the dlc for the sims. You're only supposed to buy a few dlc's that interest you and can safely ignore the rest. And most of the dlc is forwards compatible.

*Shrug*

I have no problem with this. It's extra, post-launch content.

Almost a series of... expansions, you could say.
