King Kong
quite serious. Your passive agressive meme video is an exceptionally poor counter to what was a fantastic movie game
Someday I may think of a better retort, but King Kong will always be a bad game.

Off Topic: Anyone Notice the guy with the Zim Avatar and the guy with the Grr Avatar are getting in a disagreement? Just something I find funny in this thread.

OT: I was really thinking about that a game based on the Brown coats would be awesome. Expanding upon the whole war a little more, maybe playing as Mel.

Buffy The Vampire Slayer: Chaos Bleeds was a pretty decent game.

As for a Firefly game, meh. I liked the show but I'd rather have a game based on Babylon 5.

Enter the Matrix. It had some of the shittiest textures and models, but damn if it wasn't fun.

I'd play the shit out of a Firefly space-sim.

Anything else would be kinda iffy, but I would love to have something along the lines of the X series set in the 'verse.

They won't make a game of it. The movie cost $39 million and only took $38.8 million at the box office.
And ruled home video purchases for months. The fan base for Firefly is (let's be honest) mostly nerds who don't go to movie theaters. A game might sell well.

King Kong
You just used a clip from a movie that had a video-game released with that is often considered one of the best games from 2004. So yeah, way to answer your own question.

And I don't know about you dude, but I heavily enjoyed the King Kong video game. And we're not the only ones either. The game received very high praise. Just look at the reviews.

Batman, Arkham City. LOTR Return of the King for PS2. It has been done just not as frequently.

As to the thread - I don't see Firefly as a good game - it'd have to be a game like Dear Esther where it's all text because Firefly was all about the story. It wasn't about the action. The Doctor's sister becomes a cool character in Serenity (the movie). She would work well for a game, but the other characters would be boring to play.

Farscape might work better because there are three characters that would lend themselves well for a game.Aeryn, Dargo, and the Delvian preiestess would be awesome. The other characters would have to be used for something else...oh and that grey chic too, she would work realy well.

I'd check it out if they tried a Firfly game though, especially if Joss Whedon had anything to do with it. That man knows how to write for multiple characters.

The whole super hero franchises make profits at the box office and rule the purchase charts for months. Don't get me wrong I enjoyed firefly but the reality is that the show has failed the bums on seats test on TV and in the movies. Whedon hasn't had a success since Buffy/angle, which had the now cliched emo vampire boyfriend and thus had an appeal to girls. Its noticeable that his current work is a super hero spin off an not a new idea. Super hero IPs have an advantage in that guys that are now grandfathers grew up reading the comics and when they have the grandkids they take them to names they remember and so they are not just relying on the nerd market.

There wouldn't be a firefly game for the same reason there isn't a firefly show still being made. It's not profitable enough.

Wasnt STALKER based on a book, not a show/movie?

If I am wrong, please for the love of god link me to that show or movie because I will go out and buy it as soon as I am off work!
Stalker is based off of the book: Roadside Picnic by Arkady and Boris Strugatsky. I can't say if it's good or not, as it's been out of print for a long time, and I only just got a copy this Christmas(They issued another printing of it,) but have not read it yet.

There is a movie Stalker http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0079944/

I would definitely not recommend it though, I found it extremely boring and poorly executed despite what IMDB users may say.
The movie Stalker is based off the novel "Roadside Picnic", I saw it the other day it is in the opening credits. But yeah, I agree the film was no good. Maybe if it was half an hour shorter it would have been ok as the filming was pretty amazing.

They did, didn't they? Bungie made it. Called it ODST or something...

To be honest, the joy of Firefly was the characters, not the action. The action was the spice that added to the flavour, whereas in a game the action primarily is the flavour. To do a Firefly game right, you'd also need to somehow ensure that the player wasn't able to make the crew act out of character.
Basically, you'd need something akin to The Walking Dead but with more Nathan Fillion. And, as awesome as it would be, I don't see that happening.

Screw a Firefly game, give me Han Solo; Intergalactic Smuggler instead! Basically the same premise, but with more iconic characters and a bigger universe to explore.

Why has this still not happened yet?!

That was before Whedon made one of the highest grossing films ever though.

It could happen but I'm not sure I'd like it. I don't really care about the Firefly universe; it was a character driven show and I watched it for the characters. Also gorram train heists. But still, it wouldn't appeal to me if Captain Reynolds and co. didn't have a major part in it.

Edit: Actually, after making The Avengers, Whedon could probably do it out of his own pocket, but I think he will just let it lie.

Seriously if you cant enjoy destroying a city as a gigantic gorilla then you need tor reasses your standards. However for firefly I agree I dont think it would turn out well
I loved how they handled guns in that game.
I love that you got to stab people with a fucking dinosaur rib.

Well while the Firefly franchise is loved by many it is still a fairly niche appeal that doesn't spell out block buster to any investor, that is why the show barely got off the ground before they canned it.

So making it a game would be 100% labor of love yet it would require story telling of the highest quality, if by some miracle Gabe an Whedon got together that could happen but that is the longest of shots still not guaranteed to work out at all.
I would mostly just say don't try it unless you really really got the right idea for it.

I think FTL modded with Serenity is the closest we're gonna get. And even then, it's not REALLY the same. Firefly, as many said, is about hte characters, not the ships. In fact, how many big Shipt to Ship battles were in Firefly? I count zero. It could be a third Person shooter, and have the ship be a sort of prop/ static object, but would that be fun?

I think a Firefly game would work perfectly, especially because the setting is still quite open-ended.

A grand strategy game based on the Browncoats v. Alliance war.
A Patrician game IN SPACE, in which you would trade/build up colonies/engage in transactions which aren't, strictly speaking, legal.
A Knights of the Old Republic IN SPA-..., errr, kind of RPG could work, too.

The setting is more or less fluid, but there's enough stuff to work with. Shady intergalactic corporations who might or might not be involved in Galaxy-spanning conspiracies? Dudes with Hands of Blue who got put on a bus, but would work as great villains. Amoral 007's IN SPACE who stab people with katanas? Shooting people with frigging laserbeams in a Wild West setting?

Yeah, I see potential.

I'd rather they just made another season =P

As others have said, the characters really drove the thing so it would need them to work well - and if you're getting them together to voice act it, then you may as well just shoot another season (although I'm not sure how that would go down given how the film tied things up well enough).

A game without them wouldn't be that promising - the universe itself isn't that inspired. What makes it that different to other futuristic/space settings? And for those suggesting a game about the war... are you seriously asking for ANOTHER war game? Cus... we don't have enough of them yet? o.0 The only way that could possibly work is if you played as Mal, and even then it's still not a guaranteed success.

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic (and sequel). Both extremely good games, both based off Star Wars.
