There's just so many things wrong with this article it's hard to know where to begin.

As others have pointed out, there is no exploit here -- all that's happening is that a script running on the pirate's PC notices that they have an Amazon page open and adds an extra link to the page to get a pirated version instead of buying it from Amazon. It's definitely rude behaviour, and it might end up denying potential revenue to Amazon -- but then anyone who installs this script would probably tend to be on the not-paying-for-stuff side anyway, so it's hard to say for sure.

It's basically very little different from a "search the torrentz" toolbar or the user just having a page open to a torrent search site. It's a little more tightly integrated, that's all -- but it's not exploiting any holes in either Firefox or Amazon.

And getting back to the headline (and opening statement) of this article: the only way there could be an "exploit" of Amazon is if there were a flaw in Amazon's servers or webfront -- if that were the case (which is NOT what's being referred to here) then ANY browser or program could exploit it, so it'd hardly be unique to Firefox.

This is nothing but sensationalist FUD. I expected better from the Escapist.
