It's another marketing ploy, and one of the main reasons I try not to support EA. I've never had a good experience with the company, especially not their tech support (The office that doesn't exists closed and hour ago and will call you back).
So, I can pre-order it now, which I don't want to do because it could end up being a waste of money and get the dlc for free.....

OR I could by a 60$ game....And pay more money to get all the maps. You know. Stack some extra money on top of the full game ON THE DAY IT COMES OUT so I can get the full experience. So, in effect, they're trying to dupe me into giving me my money now so they could (possibly) release a terrible game but they've made their money, of I get to pay an extra charge on top of the 60$, so I end up paying 70-80$ or so. Seriously?
I do not like being taken advantage of as a consumer.

Alright guys, lets ***** about this because we are entitled to free DLC that people have worked hard on.
This, this, a thousand times this.

DICE have clearly worked hard on re-mastering these classics outside of all the new content that will come with the game, it's only fair they come paid for OR as part of a pre-ordering incentive, as they appear to have done.

You don't want it? Don't buy it, simple.

Or they could just put it in with the main game? They worked hard creating the rest of the game too, this is just pulling out content to sell at a later date. :/

There's nothing wrong with a preorder bonus for BF2 fans. I've preordered, because I trust DICE, love Battlefield 2 and love Wake/Karkand/Sharqi/Oman.

It's not "a way to screw other people out of money" - it's an incentive to preorder - and seeing as they've received 200% more preorders than they did for Bad Company 2, it's working.

$70-80? U mad, son?
Over here the preorder is £29.99 - that's cheaper than most games at the moment. You preorder at NO EXTRA COST.

They could, but considering that they don't have to do shit at all, you should be happy. So preorder the game and get it for free, or don't. That is your choice and your choice alone, it just so happens that they are trying to influence it. And like it or not, it is a business tactic and that is exactly what the videogame industry is, a business.

Precisely, they worked hard at creating an entirely new game that is a sequel to the last. By rights, it should technically have nothing by way of maps or whatever from the game it is coming after and should be entirely based on new content made specifically for that game. The Karkand expansion is a blast back to the past of BF2, something that ties into BF2 in the context of the new game. This should be optional so as not to get people thinking 'oh well they couldn't be bothered coming up with new maps so they re-hashed the old ones'.

I don't usually make analogies to cars but I think it can be done here. You (or at least I) don't ***** to a car manufacturer because I bought a car off them and they didn't include free ICE or extras, worth money, in there that they took time and expense to make on their own, aside from the car itself.

You want the game Battlefield 3, you buy the game Battlefield 3. Now if you want the game Battlefield 3 WITH the Karkand extras, you buy the game Battlefield 3 WITH the Karkand extras. Much in the same way you want a car, buy a car. You want a car with rear parking sensors as extra, you buy a car with rear parking sensors as extra.

Yahtzee is right. Pander to fans and they become complacent and expectant and thus lose interest. Don't pander to them and they cry rivers of vitriol until your ears bleed.

This, again.

awe they put in Wake Island because it was the featured map for BF1943 but i guarantee it was not that popular of a map back in BF1942.

I am sad they didn't add El Alamein as that was hands down the most popular map for BF1942 :p

The game is months from release and they are already advertising expansions?
Does anyone else see something massively wrong with this?
This industry makes me want to vomit more and more every day. Say what you will about the film industry, but at least they aren't doing bullshit like this.

You can see a screen by screen of the new exclusive video EA did here, its got allot of shots of the new Karkand!
http://tacticalplayers.com/battlefield-3-screenshots/

The video is there also if you haven't seen it. I have to say though.. I have been rather concerned for the game before with them constantly competing with CoD and comparing it with BC2.. now it just looks like its going to be freakin awesome!! I cant wait for a TRUE Battlefield game.

wake was meh too many trolls on that map driving the carrier off the map for it to be any good in 1942 :p

But when there wasnt a troll it was pretty good. Still prefered the maps with the B-17 aka Villa Bocage and El Alamein
