ok, last friday, I had my 2 years old at home, I was playing Fallout 3, I had just entered the Super mart when he asked me the controll (mind you I had killed mole rats, road roaches, and other critters on my way there and my son was watching, didn´t seemed too fazed thought)

I gave it to him, did I mentioned he is 2?? well, anywhay, he walks up to the center of the mart, I didnt expected him to walk that far but he seemed fairly quick to get the hang of walking, a guy starts shooting at him, and in the middle of the frantic rumble of the controller and me trying to take the controller away from him, my son (without knowing) activates VATs, pulls the stick and aims for the head of the raider, pulls the trigger 4 times and presses "A", so I manage to pull the controller out of his hands (I was trying to avoid him watching 2 humans figthing), and the controller slips and falls to the ground, well, the animation starts, and after 4 clean shots to the head from my char, the raiders head flyes away from its body, blood splattering all over.

so I manage to get the controller and push pause, but he had already seen it all, he was with halve his mouth open, i took him and looking into his eyes said

"son, it wasn´t reall, its a Video Game, those guys dont exist, do you understand??"

he looks at me and says "yeah"

"are you ok?"

he looks me in the eyes and says "yes"

and then goes off to play with his toys

soooo... which was your first bloody experience in videogames?? i dont remember mine, but my son made me think about it, do you remember the first time you saw gore and bits of people flying off?? and how did you feel??

... You let a two-year-old watch you play Fallout 3?

... Are you crazy?

OT: First time I played Doom, I didn't really react that much, thought it was kinda cool, but that was more about the awesomeness of that game.

I've played games all my life; my parents were gamers. So I don't even remember my first game or my first encounter with most genres.

I do remember being afraid of the bad guys in Maniac Mansion though, because of their blue hair. The first real idea of blood and violence in games for me was probably Mortal Kombat, though I wasn't really impressed with any of it.

I'm sure your son will be fine - at 2 he will probably either forget or he won't have understood what was going on.

OT: GTA running people over, watching them go splat; mild and cartoon-y, but still counts.

Hmm, I would have to say playing Halo 2 at a friends house. The first time I spattered their oddly blue guts all over a Warthog with a shotgun was the first time I laughed maniacaly and smashed a corpse repeatedly in the face with the butt of a shotgun.

well, he just entered when i was playing, i didnt intended for him to watch "humans" kill each other, and i was halfway trough the super mart, i expected to get in and save, he watched me kill critters but i knew he didnt mind, i really didnt thought he would manage to get to where the raiders were, and well, i know that he understands its just a game for the several times i have talked to him about it (thats god parenting, to teach what is real, what is not and give him criteria (the ability to make his own choices)

well, he did understood, but yeah, stuff like that tends to help in an example to make him realize its a "Game" and realize that its "fake", but still i was rather surprised at his responses when i tryed to explain

and i just remembered!, my dad bought a disc that came bundled with 100 or so "shareware" games, and among them there was "Duke Nukem 3d" of course there was only one lvl, but still, it was the first time i saw blood in a game, and i feirly remember the first time i killd a pig with a shotgun "WOW!! I JUST BLEW THAT GUY UP!!!"

i was 9 or so at the time i think

I am tempted to say the very first original Wolfenstein game. But wracking my brains I am not sure I remember actual blood. Which would mean I guess Doom.

There was a game on the Spectrum 48k called Barbarian which was a side on 2D fighting game and if you hit the special move just right you chopped your opponents head off but I don't know there was actual blood there either as it was a looong time ago (was funny though, a little goblin like thing would come on to the screen, drag away the body of the slain and kick the head like a football). I guess I would have been maybe...11 or 12.

I'd say my first was Turok (Though I cannot recall just how bloody it was - the first, mind you, so there was no Cerebral Bore XD)

I felt like I had just slayed a dinosaur with my bare fingers (I.e. Awesome.)

I believe I was around two as well.

Head stomping in Resident Evil 2 really sticks out. I think that and MK II fatalities were some of the first.

Meh, I was playing violent video games at an early age, and I turned out fine. My parents simply made it very clear that it was simulated, not real.

It depends on the kids really. Some children are more sensitive than others, while others are able to see something, and not think much of it.

True gore in a video game? Probably when I was 10 years old or so and decided to play Parasite Eve on the PS1. The rat transforming certainly made my eyes widen in shock.XD

I first played Doom 2 when I was six. I couldn't get enough of it. I just loved making enough mulch out of demons to fertilize a garden the size of North Dakota for three consecutive years. Also I have yet to murder someone, so take that people who claim people who play games always grow up to serial killing Hitler clones!

Dunno what mine was, games wasn't really that bloody, and nothing close to realistic graphics when i started gaming.

By the way, if your son grows up to be a homicidal maniac mass mruderer you can always plead the court to imprison you instead, cause it'll clearly be your fault.
So says the mighty prophet Jack Thompson, while we all empty our beer cans and throw the at the TV to spite him.

Resident Evil, forget which one at a friends house when I was like 12.

I really think the notion that video games cause people to be violent is stupid, I take my rage out on the virtual world by playing games :S.

Wow, the little tyke sure is a great shot, you must be proud!

In all seriousness, considering his reaction it probably won't really affect him, although perhaps a few less violent video game bonding sessions with dad?

Personally, probably my first bloody impression in Video games would probably either be sneeking a peek a Turok on the N64, or my cousins letting me play GTA3 on there PS2.
