Next up, the Waiting for Godot CRPG. (Turn based, of course.)

It's your turn. What will you do?

-Wait.

It's your turn. What will you do?

-Wait.

It's your turn. What will you do?

-Move.

You do not move. What will you do?

-Wait.
Bless you.

Of course, that immediately popped the idea for a Guitar Hero track based on John Cage's 4'33"... I think I can manage that [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/4%E2%80%B233%E2%80%B3].

These are all brilliant games that are begging to be made. Seriously, why aren't they at the Global Game Jam already?

It's not like EA Redwood are the most novel developers out there. Dead Space is, as most people who have played or seen it, agreed, basically a mash-up of successful gameplay formulas from other games. And it does that well. So I don't see the problem with the game being that it lacks originality. I think the game could be fun. I just think it's ridiculous how far they're straying from the source material. The could've just come up with a brand new gothic universe and it wouldn't be pissing off literary wankers like me at all.

I'm fully expecting EA to use the rest of the divine comedy to create a trilogy. Battle royal in purgatory anyone?

Despite not actually having read The Divine Comedy in it's entirety, I don't really remember any fight scenes.. or Dante having crazy magic powers that require mana. I think the poem was more about the atmosphere and not breaking into Hell with a shotgun and witchcraft and destroying everything, that should be left to Doom. I can understand they may see it as a way to take a piece of important literature and make it known to a wider audience, but I don't think this is the way to do it.

Wait wait wait, check it. I have the next great FPS. Farewell to Arms. It's a cover based FPS!
If you're excited about that, just wait til The Da Vinci Code: The Game comes out, I hear it will have 70% more dragons and thrice the number of GoW2 style "fight alien hordes in tanks through a forest" battles

You know what book WOULD make a great epic action game though?

The Bible.

Too bad no one has the balls to make it.

I was thinking more the old testamant, from Judges. Leading the Israelites against the Caananites. The crucifixtion would totally be a quick time event though.

That piece has come up a lot in the forums recently. Unfortunately, I don't think it has ever been arranged for guitar. I think it was arranged for brass ensemble once.

I would absolutely play that, until I realized that parting the Red Sea would be a QTE.

For the possibility of an artsy/tripy game based on a religious text, go with some Daoist texts or the Bhagavad Gita. Who wouldn't want to jump into the realm of the gourd master or form the earth from the bodies of gods? Excuse the oversimplification.

Why are they even bothering calling it Dante's Inferno? That makes no sense. It's based so loosely on the imagery in the book and the story seems to be totally off-track.

They could call it something else, say it was inspired by Dante's Inferno, then leave the God of War fanboys to pick at its unimaginative gameplay elements. That would be better for everyone.

I'd hate the idea of people's idea of Inferno to be based on what's in this game rather than what's in the book, and I hope EA's totally ridiculous claim that it follows the book enough to warrant using the same name doesn't let this happen.

I think they might throw a dash of Prince of Persia into the mix by making Vergil behave exactly like Eleka. If he's even in the game at all.

Also, Dante will probably be some enigmatic demonhunting specialist in plate mail who is contracted by the pope to go to hell and kill Satan. Just imagine the qucktime events for fighting a giant with three faces who's stuck in an ice sheet!

On a more serious note, I'm scared that people aren't going to be taking the Inferno seriously now that a crappy game was made about it.

This sounds all well and good but here's my main issue :

I played dead space, which was a solid game. But it got old, fast. The thrills of the game and levels were gone after the leviathan and frankly it got boring. So whats to tell me that the same issues wont crop up in their action oriented games?

Wow, I knew it was gonna be crappy but I had no idea they were going to shark bite off God of War. Whatever, I doubt it is going to be any good.
