Must of been a demo of Wolfenstein 3D. I was too young to understand the concept of a demo only containing the first chapter, and that there was no way to unlock the other chapters without paying for the full version. Damn it I sure spent alot of time trying though...

Mine was almost definitely Wolfenstein 3D, although I also played Doom, Rise of the Triad, Dark Forces, Ken's Labyrinth and -- if it counts -- Descent around the same time. I really miss the shareware model...
