This was the first official screenshot of Halo:Combat evolved.
It's funny to see how much it changed, and how come that gun didn't make it to the first halo? Maybe they were saving the best weapons until last.

The color pallet looked a bit more varied (With the minigun's red) and they seemed to use bloom when cascading off of environmental fixtures. But other than that, it looks relatively the same.

Is that really the first screenshot of gameplay? It looks more like concept art or photoshop. Either way, it's safe to say the final product is much better.

Why are people saying the graphics look better in this picture? They look awful here and Halo's graphics are actually serviceable. Use the Warthog in the background for comparison.

Plans change. The original plan for Halo (or Red Shift or Covenant or Red line as it might have been), was for a RTS type of game like Myth. Then it changed to more a third person tactical shooter thing, and eventually metamorphised into the Halo we all know and love.

I'm fairly sure that is the first one after Microsoft bought Bungie,

that's a banshee in the background, and the minigun is back in now, provided you can rip them off of turrets.

The first few videos were truly horrendous, people were slightly off the floor the whole time and stuff, but i always remember the warthog looking like fun even back then.
